International StandardThe Century is a city hotel which is a good choice to discover Dubai or make a journey. It is an especially good choice for those who are looking for simple but comfortable accommodation without any extra luxury.
This hotel review is a translation from the French published on our French site Easyvoyage.com.
In the city center, on Khalid Bin Walid Road, 3 miles away from the airport. Allow 5 minutes to reach the trade area and 10 minutes to reach the airport.
The Century is a very simple hotel in the city center, next to the Creek, Dubaï's river. This is an ideal point from where to shop, discover historic districts and get around the city. The hotel does not have a swimming pool, but there is a fitness center with a sauna. If you would like to go to the beach, the hotel provides a free shuttle service 2 times a day. The Century has an agreement with the Jebel Ali. So the customers may freely enjoy the beach and the following facilities of the Jebel Ali : jacuzzi, sauna, badminton, tennis and fitness center. It takes 30 minutes to go from the Century to the Jebel Ali's beach.
Built in 1976 and renovated in 2001, the Century occupies one building with 6 floors which looks like an ornemental cake. The orange colored and rococo style façades are charged with white stucco friezes. However the interior design is more simple. However there are some nice blue and gilt chairs used for decoration like the sofas found in the halls at each floor. You may use the small fitness center and the sauna but the hotel's facilities are limited to these.
The 76 rooms don't have any balcony and they have a view on the road. Simple, but comfortable, they are equipped modestly but with good taste. Carpets, bed linens and printed pastel curtains, aquarel paintings on the walls... You can relax comfortably in an armchair to watch the satellite TV. The other amenities include air-conditioning, a minibar and direct telephone for international calls. There is also a safe available at the reception upon request. The bathrooms nicely decorated with marble have a bathtub and a hairdryer.
The Century has one main restaurant and 3 restaurants à la carte. You may eat Italian, Lebanese or Japanese food. The environment of each restaurant is fancy, but we must mention the decoration of the Lebanese restaurant. Installed in one large vaulted lounge looking like a cellar, it is embellished with the wall lamps diffusing softened light , ideal for a dinner in a warm ambiance. At the main restaurant, the breakfast is served at the buffets. It offers light breakfasts (salads, sandwiches) and the snacks served in the afternoons with several dressings (scones, viennese and several pastries) and with a tea or coffee. Allow pay between 8 to 15 euros for one dish.
