Hotel Madeira Regency Cliff

In the hotel zone of Funchal, 2.5 miles away from downtown and 15.5 miles away from the airport. Expect a 5 minute ride to get to downtown and 30 minutes to reach the airport.

The Madeira Regency Cliff is one of our favorites. The atmosphere that reigns here is unique and less trendy then the other hotels of Madeira. This place is not recommended if you want to see local color, but recommended if you rather want some peace and are in search of a proper space in one of the most comfortable areas of the U.K.. Its modern and relaxing decoration will surprise you in each corner of the hotel. All the facilities overlook the sea. The different areas of the hotel offer a superb view of the ocean, as well as of Funchal City. If you like to swim in the sea, you need to go right down the hotel. Here you can find the seaside complex Lido. An access to the sea is possible by way of a ladder but there is no sand. Deckchairs, matresses, sunshades and a few non-motorised water sports are provided for extra fees. Note that the hotel offers a shuttle service, to get to downtown Funchal.

Opened in 2001, this charming hotel impresses everybody. Right after you pass through the entrance hallway, you discover its unique space. A classic reception but surrounded by small lounge areas in tones of grey. A very fashionable decoration inspired by Asian countries. Here, in this comfortable space, you will also find a computer with Internet access ( extra fee). Let yourself be taken by the atmospheric lounge music that gives rhythm to the movement of the Atlantic Ocean waves. To get to the outdoor pool, you can use the elevator or the stairways. Round, a few deckchairs and sunshades are placed around it. The towels are supplied for free. Too bad, however, that this space is not a little larger and that it overlooks the public pool. The rush hour can be noisy during the weekend. The Madeira Regency Cliff offers an indoor pool that allows clients to rest peacefully, surrounded by large bay windows and tropical trees. They can also enjoy the fitness room and a free hamam.

Composed of only 59 rooms, the Madeira Regency Cliff has 6 levels. The path to the rooms is surrounded by an indoor garden; the corridors are scented with estrelicia, the flower that symbolises Madeira. At last, you will discover a room which is always in adequacy with modernity. A painting overlooks the bedspread, cream colors are preferred for the bedding. The grey curtains can be opened to access a balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will find a small table and two chairs in marine colors and a view of the sea to the horizon. A small coffee and tea kit is available and you can have breakfast in your room until noon. Near that, cable TV faces the bed. Sometimes, international calls can be done directly from the room. The bathroom is equipped with a sparkling bathtub with a shower pommel and an alarm bell in case of accident. Welcome products are offered as well as bathrobes and a hair-dryer.

The Mistral Restaurant welcomes you for all three meals of the day. The setting is really comfortable and it offers a lounge atmosphere. The tables overlook the ocean. The large comfortable purple chairs are very pleasant. At lunch time, you can enjoy the sundeck, protected by large white sunshades. The outdoor chairs are made of wood but they have soft cushions on the seats. A peaceful place facing the Atlantic Ocean. The meals are served buffet-style or fixed menu. The buffets will help you discover all kinds of cuisine: Madeiran, Italian, international... Expect 27.50 &euros ; at the buffet and 25&euros; for the fixed menu. A pianist usually plays during dinner and will follow you up to the Mistral Bar. Here you can choose from different international cocktails but you must try the Poncha, a traditional cocktail of the island. Don't drink it too fast, it is pretty heavy! Finally, at the Oceanus Bar you can have a light meal or refresh yourself with a delicious milkshake or fresh fruit juice.
