FamilyThe Koggala complex comprises two hotels namely the Koggala Beach and the Club Koggala Village. Bordering the great sand beach, it is ideal for families.
The Koggala hotel complex is 11 miles south of Galle. The hotel is located on the roadside before the village of Koggala. The complex borders a beautiful sand beach. Colombo is 80 miles north and the international airport is 100 miles away.
The hotel is made up of 2 parts, the Koggala beach hotel and the Club Koggala Village. The Koggala Beach Resort is better maintained than the Koggala Village.
The hotel's infrastructures are rather old, dating back to 1976. They were, however, renovated in 2002. The architecture of the buildings is rather huge and lacks charm. The Koggala Village seems abandoned, the hotel is deserted. In effect, all activities and animation take place at the Koggala Beach. The hotel is positioned lengthwise on the beach.
The Koggala Beach is separated from the Koggala Village by bungalows built along the beach. In each hotel, you will find 2 bars.
The front office at the Koggala Beach is opened on the outside and offers a view of the swimming pool and the ocean. The Koggala Beach has a central part and the rooms are located on each side. The swimming pool is in the centre and directly opens on to the beach. The KoggalaVillage includes a large building surrounded by several small buildings with the swimming pool in the centre.
The Koggala Beach has 102 guestrooms, distributed in the main building and the bungalows. All have a balcony and offer a view of the sea. The rooms are spacious and their decoration is simple. Their furnishings are primarily of wood. An ochre tiling enhances the white walls. They have air-conditioning, ceiling fan, telephone, television for the superior rooms and a safe. The most ordinary bathrooms have showers. They have no decoration.
The Club Koggala Village accommodates its holiday makers in 87 rooms. The decoration is rather obsolete and sober. Paintings add life to the white walls. All the rooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fan, telephone and a balcony or a terrace. Some have a view of the sea and the others face the swimming pool and offer a distant view of the sea. A shower and guest supplies are available in the bathroom.
The Koggala Beach offers local and international dishes in a large and very noisy restaurant. The wood frame there is exposed and in spite of the many bay windows all around the room is dark. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as a buffet at the restaurant. Every evening, a different theme is offered, barbecue, Asian, Mediterranean, Italian, Indian, Singhalese cuisine and seafood. Since there is no beach, you will not be abe to enjoy a view of the ocean.
The Koggala Village has a large dining room with a view of the ocean where wide bay windows add brightness to the room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as a buffet at the restaurant. Theme evenings are also organised there with barbecue, Indian, Italian and Singhalese cuisine.
The hotel is directly on the great sand beach of Koggala. Few tourists dare to spread out their towels there as many peddlers flock around them. The hotel provides deckchairs and towels on the the hotel's private beach. Do not miss: watching the unique fishing technique of fishermen who perch on logs of wood in the evening at sunset or early in the morning.
