AnimationIf you are looking for a beautiful beach, you will love this one! Louis Grand Hotel stands on the island of Corfu's west coast, along Glyfada beach. However, you won't be able to walk to Corfu city unless you enjoy a good hike. The clientele is essentially European. The hotel is comfortable and very well maintained. It opened its doors in 1972 but the latest renovations date from winter 2005-2006. It belongs, as its name suggests it, to the Louis Hotels Group, who own six hotels on Corfu.
Glyfada is approximately 10 mi away from the city of Corfu, but also from the airport, as they are both next to each other. Allow approximately 30 minutes for trips one way or the other. However, if you go to the centre, beware of rush hour, when the streets are often jammed.
If you like water slides, note that Aqualand Water Park is located 4 mi away.
On a more practical note: the air-conditioning is available from mid-June to mid-September from 2pm to 3am. Also, the mini-club is open from June to September. Events are organized by an external company who put out a different show every night (karaoke, magic, live music, Greek night, etc).
Finally, note that the water sports facilities available on the beach are not part of the hotel. It is an exterior service offering to practise jet skiing, pedal boat, canoeing, etc.
For your information, Louis Grand hotel is open from May to October.
You will reach Louis Grand Hotel through small roads lined with olive trees, a typically Mediterranean landscape. The first sighting of the hotel is a large and impressive building. Before you get to the reception, you will find a pretty patio, from which you can see the restaurant terrace at your feet. The reception is inside the hall, in the form of a large wooden counter. All the decoration here has been designed in a typically Mediterranean style. You will feel like you are in a large house, rather than a hotel building. The hotel was built on seven floors, going down to the sea. The hotel swimming pool lies just on the edge of the beach, with a small pool for children. Free deckchairs are set up all around it, and in the palm grove which gives you the chance to be isolated for a while. The peacefulness of the place depends on the number of guests present! Note that if you wish to use the hotel's beach towels, you will have to pay a £8.80 deposit per towel.
With a capacity of 500 people, the hotel has 247 bedrooms. When you arrive in the room, you will have to find out how to work the electricity... It is very simple but not very obvious! All you need to do is insert the bedroom key ring in the magnetic slot provided for this purpose: let there be light! To sum up, the bedroom is spacious and well designed, but do request a view of the sea, so you can enjoy your balcony. The mountain view also overlooks the car park... The burgundy carpet matches the bed spread and blends in very well with the dark wood and wrought iron furniture of the room. The bedroom's facilities are of good quality: TV set, a safe available for a fee, air conditioning, an external and direct line and room service until 9.30pm. The huge wardrobe of the corridor faces the bathroom. Which is functional, of regular size, but brightened up by the salmon-coloured walls. Some hospitality products are available by the sink, in addition to the shower gel dispensers.
For breakfast (7 to 10am) and dinner (7 to 9.30pm), go to the Figareto. The main restaurant consists of an interior room, a pretty patio but also a terrace with a view of the sea. It is more pleasant to have your meal outside if you wish to eat in peace. The buffet at the end of the room serves the same salads every night but the main course varies according to the theme of the evening: Greek, Italian, Corfiot... As for breakfast, sweet or savoury, everyone should find what they like. For lunch, go in the direction of the sea to the Pergola Beach from 12.30 to 3.30pm. Note that the all-inclusive option is available.
As with all the other beaches on Corfu, Glyfada's is a public place. If you wish to set up a deckchair here, you will have to pay for the spot. The beach is long and large enough to accommodate a great number of people. Swimming seems to be safe, although some waves may startle you! There is sand on the beach and in the water, so no need for sandals to go swimming.
