CharmNotwithstanding its small size, the François Plantation is a cute hotel with twelve Creole-style bungalows set in a tropical garden. Set on an ’ isolated hill, ’ its location is both peaceful and endowed with excellent cuisine.
François Plantation is situated on the western domains of the island, in Colombier. The Gustavia airport is just over a mile away (10 minutes' drive from the hotel).
The hotel is closed from 31 May to 15 October.
François Plantation has no beach. The closest one is the cove of Flamands, a long bay of white sand located at a 5 minutes' driving distance from the hotel. We have not therefore taken it into account in our general rating.
Renting a car is essential.
François Plantation is a small establishment comprising of 12 independent colonial style cottages with bright colours, pigeon-holed in a well-kept garden. Four of them are, incidentally, nestled in this garden, while the other eight, high up, offer a view on the Flamands bay. The main building, with a veranda, also serves as the reception, bar and restaurant decorated in a cosy colonial style. Beautiful pieces of old furniture made of mahogany among which are cosy armchairs in old polished leather.
Notwithstanding their small surface area (16 m²), the bicoloured bungalows are equipped with the essential amenities: a big colonial-style bed made of mahogany, a small desk and a large bathroom. From floor to ceiling, their rooms are decorated in white rough marble. They are equipped with air-conditioning and ceiling fan, stocked mini-bar, tea/coffee kit, large radio, television, safe, dressing gowns, hair dryer, magnifying mirror. It is possible to get a video tape recorder on loan. Eight of the bungalows with a view over the Atlantic have a beautiful patio along with tables and deckchairs. Two joint cottages can each lodge a family.
Very beautiful cave. The setting is also lovely: a cute colonial-style house with a veranda, venetian shutters and ceiling fans in a traditionally Creole fashion. The Smoking-Room: After dinner, enthusiasts of Cuban cigars will love this cosy bar.
Located at a 5 minutes' driving distance from the hotel, the cove of Flamands is one of the island's most beautiful beaches with a long and near desolate bay surrounded by hills. There is no water-sports centre installed on its soft white sand. The difference in water level is rather high.
