CharmThe Ambos Mundos likes its image as a hotel for intellectuals. The legend says that Ernest Hemingway lived there for a period. For the rest of the hotel: charm, nice people, friendly personnel and a tuned piano. We will be going back.

The Ambos Mundos is on the corner of the plaza de Armas, in the heart of historic Havana. For transfers from the airport, thirteen miles away, you should anticipate 45 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Like most of the hotels in the historical centre (Santa Isabel, Florida etc.), the Ambos Mundos is managed by the Habaguanex group, who also renovated Old Havana. Built in 1932, mostly intellectuals and artists stayed at the Ambos Mundos in the 1960s. "The best" of Havana. A reputation that has become its main business: you can visit Hemingway's bedroom (N° 511), its most famous guest, who lived in the hotel from 1932 to 1939, for 2 US $.
Built in 1932 and renovated in 1996, the Ambos Mundos is a pink building in a colonial style, with 52 bedrooms. If you don't want to be disturbed by the street entertainment and the sun, very hot in summer, you should choose the rooms that overlook the patio. The hotel is a friendly place, open onto a busy street. You can have a drink at the bar on the ground floor while listening to Cuban music played by the hotel's pianist but the bar/restaurant terrace on the top floor is nicer and airier with a musical atmosphere and a superb view over colonial Havana. Consequently the drinks are quite expensive.
Decorated very simply, in an art deco style like the rest of the hotel, the 52 rooms are quite small, despite their high ceilings, and are not very bright. Comfortable rooms: air conditioning, satellite TV, direct telephone for international calls, bathroom with bath and hair dryer.
The hotel has a restaurant and a bar on the roof (5th floor) in the open air. Green plants and a pergola make for an intimate atmosphere. From here you will enjoy a beautiful bay over Havana bay and the colonial part of the town. The service is not always very friendly...
