Well locatedThis hotel, that celebrated its 50th birthday in 2008, is located a small distance from the town centre but overlooks the Malecon. Youngsters will like it if they have come to have a good time and visit Havana without thinking too much about comfort.
This hotel review is a translation of the French version published on our French site Easyvoyage.com.
Located on the Malecon, the Deauville is between the old town and the modern districts. It takes about 25 minutes to walk to the town centre.
The hotel was renovated in July 2007. The nicest rooms are above the 6th floor, the view is better.
An old building on the Malecon with 14 floors. A very kitch style hall with a lounge on one side and a restaurant on the other with several tables and a buffet in a dark corner. 144 rooms reached through dark corridors up to the 6th floor where there is a swimming pool. Very popular, it is surrounded with deckchairs and a bar. On the basement, the "70", open from 7pm to 3am, welcomes many Cuban students. Not very big, it is often packed in the evening.
144 spacious rooms, very simply decorated. Worn bedding, with very soft mattresses, no fridge, nor any room service. On the other hand, television and air conditioning ensure a minimum amount of comfort. The advantage is that 3 people can stay in one bedroom and there is plenty of space. The bathrooms are like the bedrooms, very simple. Roll on the renovation work!
In the hall, some tables serve Creole cuisine à la carte for lunch, whereas for breakfast and dinner there is a buffet. The food is not wonderful but is good. For people who are not very hungry, a bar serves snacks near the swimming pool.
