Dream becomes reality at last: this could be the W Hong Kong's advertising slogan! If you tend to run away from formal stuffy hotels but enjoy (real) luxury, avant-gardism, elegance, faultless service, being pampered, contemporary design, a trendy setting, etc., while still enjoying warm and simple human contact, this hotel is for you. Set up in Hong Kong's highest residential tower, the W consists of several different dynamic worlds, all of which have their own magic, and all of which can be explored like an open book on tomorrow's trends. The recurrent element is nature, which binds together all the different elements of this hotel which is so special in many ways due to its dynamism, its decoration, its beauty and its rare level of quality. A stay here is a unique experience and an absolute must: it's bound to be your favourite!
The hotel is located in the district of Kowloon, opposite the great Victoria harbour. The hotel is a five minute-ride from Central (by taxi or underground).
The hotel is an approximate 20 minute drive away from Hong Kong International Airport (half an hour by bus), but beware of traffic jams, which can easily add half an hour to your journey.
The member hotels of the international W group all have the same objective: appealing to their guests' five senses - definitely a unique adventure! Five senses + 2: the sixth one is called the 'nod', which refers to making a nod to the guests, with a gesture, to make them feel at ease. In the Presidential suite, for example (double WOW!), there is a huge friendly bear on which you can relax! The 7th sense is called the 'Wow' factor, which aims to create the 'surprise' effect: it has been a real success in Hong Kong!
You will find various objects in your room that are available for sale such as adaptors, a mini-umbrella, a city guide, etc., (prices are on the minibar list). On the ground floor, 'The Store' sells objects from the W brand, as is the case in all the other hotels of the group.
The hotel is decorated with some major, contemporary works of art, which change on a regular basis thanks to a partnership between the hotel and numerous art galleries.
Events are organised twice a month and that is when the W becomes, more than ever, 'The place to be' (e.g the party held in honour of the creator of the Buddha bars).
The porters will respond to your every demand, however crazy (within the limit of legality) 24-hours a day.
You will need to use your room key card to take the lift up to your floor.
The hotel has direct access to the luxurious 'Elements' mall (open since 2007), which houses a state-of-the-art cinema with a giant plasma screen and reclining chairs.
Open since October 2008, this is the first W tower and its approach is definitely one orientated towards nature and the environment, through its various, ultra-contemporary spaces. The mood is set as soon as you arrive, with lounge-style music (even played outside): relaxed but reactive porters will open one of the patio doors and take you to the impressive lift leading directly up to the 6th floor. As you go up, you will notice the huge plasma screen showing flowers swaying in the wind as if it were an animated painting, and in the glass lift, make sure that you don't become hypnotized by the screen set in the floor! Here, as everywhere else, the focal point is the fantastic panorama of the Hong Kong harbour and the city. This vertical hotel is mainly made up of glass walls from the ground floor to the 76th floor, which is the top floor where you will find Hong Kong's highest and largest outdoor pool. The many other upper floors are residential.
As the hotel's main objective is to make everybody feel at home, common areas are called the names of rooms to be found in the home such as 'kitchen', 'living room', etc, mostly gathered on the 6th floor, all facing one another: an essential feature in W hotels being their convivial meeting areas. The various atmospheres are created thanks to different colours, designs and shapes, together with numerous and fascinating works of art. As you step out of the lift and walk down the corridors further into the hotel, the walls and atmosphere of the place change as a result of visual effects and reliefs, etc. Books from the library are set on the low and curved shelves of the lounge bar dividing the homogenous and vast space into various cosy areas. On the ceiling, butterflies look like they're fluttering around thanks to hanging mirrors. Behind the counter, a wide range of liquors are integrated in the spacious and ultra-contemporary design of the bar. If you love tea, you will be able to choose from 30 different varieties (low and high tea is served between 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm). A little further away, a mixing desk awaits the latest top DJs invited by the hotel. An area for private events can be found just behind a beaded curtain. The lobby is set back but you will have to go through it to get to the lift taking you up to the rooms. This is a burst of fuchsia in a dark area where materials and movement are the major decorative features. When guests stay in the hotel, they become part of the hotel's tapestry and that is what the superb grey corridors decorated with imitation bookshelves along the walls, underline. The 7th floor is dedicated to conference rooms - we recommend that you visit them to enjoy the superb works of art!
The top floor is a supremely luxurious area, where you can enjoy an 82 ft heated overflow pool, on top of the world! The jacuzzi and many comfortable deck chairs are an invitation to relaxation in the heart of this frantic city, especially with the plexiglas walls that give guests the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful panorama. A multitude of butterflies flutter on the mosaic walls and create a sort of limit between the land and sky: this area can be used for functions. A few floors down, you will find the huge, superb gym decorated in a bluey shade. All the apparatus (with a television and an iPod connection) face the bay windows which offer a breathtaking view of the city. Originally from New York like the W hotels, the Bliss Spa is now part of the hotel group - this famous kingdom of well-being is set over two floors and decorated in shades of turquoise and cream, with 9 treatment rooms, two of which are dedicated to couples, a whirlpool bath with aquatic deckchairs facing the urban panorama, a sauna, a hammam and showers decorated with glass paste designs on the walls. Magical and relaxing day and night, it is open until 10:00 pm.
A total of 393 guestrooms are divided into 84 'Wonderful' rooms, 84 'Spectacular' rooms, 21 'Cool Comer' rooms, 162 'Fabulous' rooms and 42 suites themselves divided into 21 'Fantastic' suites, 17 'Marvellous' suites, 3 'WOW' suites and one 'Extreme WOW' (Presidential suite). You will find a minimum surface area of 430 sq ft, but the bay windows and mirrors make the rooms look even bigger. The 'Fabulous' rooms have a view of the harbour, the 'Wonderful' rooms look out on to the residential district and the 'Spectacular' ones have a view of both. Everything here is carefully thought out, stunning and beautiful! The doors are unfortunately very heavy though and therefore difficult to open. Nature is represented on the walls with printed floral elements and on the lamps with very real looking butterflies, etc. The rooms are superb and relaxing, decorated in shades of grey and cream, with purple details. The other type of decoration is more feminine and glamorous. The white king-sized beds give flawless comfort thanks to their fluffy pillows and quilts. In the 'Fabulous' rooms, a huge 42 inch LCD screen, with surround sound, is concealed behind a great sliding mirror facing the bed. Several touch screens enable you to adjust the light intensity and the opening and shutting of the curtains. All private areas are highlighted with clever lighting arrangements: wall lamps, table lamps, reading lamps, night lights, etc. The large desk is a hub for fast Internet connection and various electrical equipment. The amenities are obviously very luxurious and the latest models available on the market, they include: a telephone, WiFi, a well-stocked minibar particularly nicely arranged with tea and coffee-making facilities (miniature liquor bottles, wine bottles, etc), a radio and a CD alarm, a DVD player, an iPod station (B&O product in the suites), films on request, very quiet individual air-conditioning, a safe, an iron and an ironing board. The superb contemporary bathrooms are only separated from the bedrooms by a partition. A great sliding board can shut off the toilet or the beautiful (tropical) granite shower. If you love taking baths, you can do so and take your time while watching television (a screen is set into the wall). You will find a very complete set of 'Bliss' hospitality products, bathrobes and slippers, bathroom scales, a hair-dryer, etc.: there is absolutely everything that you need! Room service is available 24-hours a day.
The main restaurant is called the 'kitchen' and it is open from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. International cuisine with flavours from all over the world is served in this room which is divided into two distinct parts: it is up to you to choose what you want. On one side, the atmosphere is both rustic and contemporary, and a real open kitchen shows a team of chefs, directed by an international chef, busying themselves around the hobs and ovens. In the morning, in front of the kitchen, a very abundant and tasty buffet is laid out, (there is also an a la carte breakfast menu). A large table is also available for guests to read their favourite papers or books, provided on the spot, while enjoying the liveliness of the place. A 'boutique' area offers more than 12 sorts of oil and the sculptures made out of crockery are very impressive. Care is taken in every exhibited element. The second part has a completely different atmosphere, it is very spacious and contemporary, and every guest can enjoy the panorama of Victoria harbour. In addition to the elaborate menu (different each season) guests can choose between a Chinese and Western set menu (weekly rotation) for lunch and dinner. A brunch is served between 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sundays. The thick wine menu boasts bottles from all over the world. There is even a great choice of wine served by the glass. All areas have a particular cocktail - the 'light my fire' cocktail, in the second restaurant is called 'Fire' for example. Your throat will actually be on fire for a whole two seconds! On the ground floor, sliding doors open up to this unsuspected and 'red-hot' restaurant, which is open in the evenings. Red, orange and black are the colours chosen for this fascinating place. Traces on the floor give the impression that a fire has burned. Various sections are divided up by small strips of metal where a fire has left marks. One of the pages of the refined menu is dedicated to dishes roasted in the oven.
