CharmMajestically located on the sumptuous Hvar square, the Palace is a hotel where time has stopped. A perfect place for a quiet vacation, a few steps from the island's cultural richness and the small port that wakes up in the summer.
Located on the port of Hvar Island, the Palace is more than a hotel: it is one of the city's most precious historic buildings, and used to be the headquarters for part of Venice Republic administration.
Hvar is a 2 hour boat ride (1 hour in hydroplane) from the port of Split. Split airport is 12 miles away (count 30 minutes for transfers by car).
Classical music concerts on terraces for two weeks in July.
The Palace hotel was built in the end of the 19th century. It welcomed rich Austrians who came to breathe the pure Adriatic air. Renovated in 1971, and again in 2001, this is a large, white stone, 3-storey mansion with an elevator, semi-detached from the Duke's Palace (14th century). There is a terrace, reserved for hotel guests, on the roof of this historic building, closed to the public.
The 73 rooms are spacious (270 square feet), and feature a double bed, a sofa, a telephone with direct international access, satellite television, and a mini-bar. No air conditioning or ventilation. Bathroom with tub and hair dryer. All rooms have a balcony with a view of the port and the city. If possible, request a room on the upper floor: they have a large terrace. Decor is basic, with unattractive wooden furniture, but rooms are comfortable. White or light blue walls. Magnificent view of the roofs of Hvar, the small port, and surrounding mountains.
The dining room is large, richly furnished in salmon pink tones. When the veranda was built, a large tree was preserved in a corner of the room. On Sunday nights, the management offers a buffet and a local aperitif. The rest of the week, meals are served at the table. Mediterranean and international cuisine.
The public pebble beach, at a 10 minute walk from the hotel, offers deckchairs (paying), showers, and a small bar. Nautical base belonging to the Amfora hotel, at the end of the walk, available to the Palace's guests.
