Our pickLocated in one of the most beautiful natural settings of New Caledonia, verily of the world, the Meridien Ile des Pins has established the magnificence of a wooden architecture within a wild environment of coconut trees, filaos and colonar pines from the Ouro bay, which displays to its feet a very fascinating lagoon.
This hotel review is a translation from the French published on our French site Easyvoyage.com.
The Meridien is located on an island of sand planted with coconut trees, filaos and colonar pines at the extreme end of the Isle of Pines. It overlooks the beautiful bay of Ouro.
Isolated on a genuine island edged by the lagoon, a sand river and an arm of the sea, the Meridien Ile des Pins is in the midst of a small paradise for Robinsons of the south seas. It is aside the famous pool of seawater with luxuriant shades and is one of the most attended sites on the Isle of Pines.
Built in 1999, the Meridien Pines Island represents a typical Melanesian architecture with the palm roofs. The main buildings incorporate this style in common rooms, bars and restaurants open to the breeze around a beautiful pool and a beautiful wooden park. The decoration retakes the primitive style which prevails throughout the South Pacific.
Whether in bungalows or in the one storey building, the rooms are all very large and provide a wooden look and a refined decoration on the theme of islands. Some bungalows on the seafront have their own pontoons for a tan and to go down in the water.
The sumptuous breakfasts appear as as an unprecedented wealthy buffet where home made pastries and island fruits dominate. Lunches offer a variety of Melanesian dishes. As for dinners, they are refined and succulent, and they are served buffet-style. The freshly caught fish is well present.
A sandy beach stretches as far as the eye can see in front of the hotel when the tide is low, forming a crystalline lagoon when the tide is high.
