Well locatedThe style of the Nippon is elegant and designer, its common areas and guest rooms decorated with simplicity and character.
The hotel opened some ten years ago, but it has kept a youthful and energetic atmosphere, taking advantage of its small size and its location to attract a mixed clientele: a perfect establishment for holidaymakers but also well equipped to cater for those travelling to the area on business, the Nippon is the ideal establishment for a stay in the capital.
No.6, Topçu Caddesi: the Nippon hotel is at the very heart of the Taksim neighbourhood, where you'll find the majority of Istanbul's hotels.
Highly frequented by businessmen and women, the area is the centre of constant hustle and bustle: by night and by day, in the numerous nightclubs and restaurants (especially in the main street behind Taksim square) there is always some live music going on.
The hotel is protected from this animation thanks to its location at the other end of the square, at the crossroads to several pedestrian streets filled with hotels and grocery stores. You therefore won't have to worry about the noise, or about having your sleep disturbed. The neighbourhood is safe.
Taksim is one of the most lively and charming neighbourhoods of the capital. Home to many business headquarters, this is also the heart of Istanbul's night life.
The area is also relatively safe: there are constant comings and goings here, and the numerous establishments provide an excellent remedy to any night-time hassles.
The area affords very good access to public transport (bus service and northbound metro line).
The hotel occupies a modern corner building. The hotel building itself, with its linear spaces and 'rational' design, is in keeping with its overall image: this becomes apparent upon entering the hotel, where the layout of the sofas and the reception area, and the detail of the materials create a very nice atmosphere indeed.
The building is an 8-storey construction, the two top floors of which are reserved for smokers.
The Nippon was renovated in 2007, and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
The clientele is mainly made up of Europeans (many Italians, Germans, Greeks and Belgians), but there has been an increase of Middle-Eastern businessmen and women who choose the hotel for its conference rooms.
A cocktail area has been created for business drinks, compensating for the fact that there is no bar.
The establishment provides Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, and there is also an Internet corner for guests who haven't brought along their computer.
Finally, the hotel also has a well-being centre which offers various massage treatments.
The Nippon's 171 guest rooms offer a mixture of elegance and practicality.
They're rather small and are decorated with simple materials (wood and dark tiling), giving the rooms little touches of style.
The hotel offers the choice between standard rooms and suites. Both include cable Internet connection (Wi-Fi is also available), a plasma-screen TV broadcasting international channels, a mini-bar (two courtesy bottles of water are provided for guests upon their arrival), a safe and an adjustable air-conditioning system.
The decor reflects the effort to please the hotel's business clientele, mixing efficiency and comfort.
However, there are no rooms equipped to cater for disabled guests, although management claims that such a room can be easily arranged if necessary. Some of the bathrooms are fitted with a shower that includes an emergency button for elderly guests.
Near the entrance to the restaurant, there is a selection of newspapers provided for guests (unfortunately all in Turkish). The spacious restaurant room itself has a capacity of 200 diners and serves international and traditional cuisine in a colourful setting boasting amusing paintings.
A copious buffet breakfast is served here (including cereal and pastries), as well as the other two meals of the day, which are served à la carte.
The attentive staff and the excellent Turkish coffee provide guests with a great start to the day.
