RestLocated fifty five minutes from Santo Domingo, the Decameron is a friendly hotel, ideal for family holidays. We also recommend it for its beach, huge for the region.
The Decameron is located on the famous beach of Juan Dolio, 9 miles from the small town of San Pedro de Macoris. It is located thirty minutes away from Las Americas international airport, and 45 minutes from the capital (depending on traffic) and its famous historical monuments in the Colonial Zone.
Among the hotel's 440 rooms, 50 large apartments equipped with cooking facilities are available to customers - at the same rate. In addition, the hotel has a club for children (3 to 15 year-olds) which provides lessons in horseback riding and tennis free of charge (part of the "all inclusive" service).
Excellent for its category, this hotel is outstanding for its services and amenities. The hospitable staff are predominantly French and Puerto Rican during summer, and are more than friendly - you will feel at home very quickly. The palm trees and the lush vegetation will definitely make you forget the buildings of concrete, which show traces of aging, especially the eight-storey building purchased by the Decameron in 1994. Fortunately, the latter is located by the sea and overlooks the beautiful beach of the hotel - superb view. A special mention, the three swimming pools are equipped with very large deck chairs. A bridge spans the swimming pools.
The hotel has 440 standard rooms in 16 two-storey buildings painted brown, including an eight-storey building with a sea view. The terraces of the rooms on the ground floor are immense. All rooms are equipped with a safe (extra payment), telephone, cable television and a hair dryer. The hotel offers baby cots (subject to availability) and an iron, which you have to request at the reception. The bedding in the rooms and the kitchen area in the apartments were renewed in 2004. The interior parts, painted bright yellow, were replaced by salmon colour.
The large main restaurant serves buffet style and is located just opposite the reception. It offers standard international cuisine (and a thematic evening, once a week). In addition, three restaurants serve a la carte (upon reservation) and are open from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.: the Firenze (Italian), the Mirandas (Brazilian) and, since 2004, La Troje (Mexican), which is a brand new restaurant, are all available for meals. Two snack bars are open until 2 o'clock in the morning, along with four bars that open at 10 a.m. The general layout of the tables is well thought out, with colonnades that separate the large areas.
You will be surprised by the beach which has a huge area of fine and light brown sand. A luxury for the region, it is situated less than an hour away from Santo Domingo. The palm trees and coconut trees, which are scattered all around, give it a wild look, a distinctive feature of the Caribbean beaches in the famous tourist resort of Punta Cana. In short, it would have been perfect without the road that you have to cross to access the beach from the rooms. There are some algae on both sides, but it is possible to swim in areas of clear water. Towels are provided free of charge on the deck chairs (by the pool and the beach).
