By the Kata Beach, the Club Med of Phuket shows with professionalism what determined the success of the offer: a profusion of organised activities and sports in a tropical environment.
South of Kata Beach, one of the southernmost beaches on the west coast of Phuket. Phuket Town, on the east coast, is around 12.5 miles away and the airport is 28 miles north, which is around fifty minutes by car.
To have a direct telephone line in the rooms you will have to open an account at the arrival to the club and pay the corresponding bill at the end of your stay. In fact, telephone communications are not included in the "all inclusive" offer of the establishment.
The animation staff offers non-stop activites from 9 am till midnight. Yoga, every kind of sports, salsa classes, coconut throw, video shows and theme evenings.
Built in 1985 and partially renovated in 2005 after the Tsunami, the Club Med Phuket extends its 21 buildings (two or three levels depending on the building) on a vast area by Kata Beach, nicely dotted with trees and tropical gardens. A good effort for the reception areas, with a grand well-ventilated lobby installed around a fountain. Only one swimming pool, but big, to accommodate the many water activities organised daily. Adjacent to the swimming pool there is a long bar and a stage where, in the evening, the shows presented by the animation staff take place. The numerous sport equipments are disseminated throughout the site.
Out of the 297 rooms of the club, 255 are standard, 6 are deluxe honey moon and 30 are deluxe. Very simple in their arrangement, they include local colours in their decoration: sculpted wood headbeds, bronze drum copies as bedside tables, cloth-printed sliding door. Basic equipment (shower only), but fair. Note that there is no TV or minibar.
The usual formula used in every Club Med: a massive buffet offering a very wide range of choices, from Japanese cuisine to Chinese or Thai specialties, and a selection of French and classic dishes of international gastronomy. Good global level of quality: there is also, which is rare in Thailand, a small plate of cheese. However, for wine lovers there is not much choice: local wine for all.
Shorter than those of Patong, Karon or Bang Tao, Kata Beach is anyway one of the loveliest beaches in Phuket. Not very windy, with trees, it still has a small preserved side which gives it a lot of charm. The water of the Andaman Sea, of a good level of cleanliness and of satisfactory level, will meet the expectations of swimming lovers. However, note that it is really busy in high season. The Club Med, because of the importance of its area, has the advantage of covering two thirds of Kata Beach seaside. Going out of the hotel by the back side you need to cross a small newly built road to access the beach.
