CharmNot many rooms, but a privileged location on Kata Beach and a particularly comfortable atmosphere: in the tone of charming hotel businesses, the Boathouse has no difficulty to convince.
On the southern extremity of Kata Beach, one of the most southern beaches of the west coast of Phuket. Phuket Town, on the east coast, is around 12.5 miles away and the airport is 28 miles north, which is around fifty minutes by car.
The lack of water sports organised by the hotel is compensated by the presence of numerous local suppliers on Kata Beach offering windsurfing, diving, canoe, etc. A few hundred feet set back from Kata Beach, the Boathouse owns a very high standard residence, the Mom Tri's Boathouse Villa Royale, which offers, in a luxuriant garden, six very luxurious suites arranged in a traditional Thai style.
By the water of Kata Beach, the Boathouse, built in 1999, is composed only of a 3-floor single unit building where the pointed roofing revives the classic shapes of Thai architecture. Although with a modest area, it offers two swimming pools and integrates sufficient vegetation to preserve a certain privacy for its guests. The common spaces places an emphasis on panelling, which gives comfortable style and sure charm to the place.
The 36 rooms of the Boathouse (33 standards and 3 suites) are all oriented towards the sea. They have a generous area, are perfectly equipped and offer the level of charm displayed by the establishment: a personalisation effort of the rooms through bright colours and warm materials (colourful earthenware in the bathrooms, panelling, wicker sliding door, fabrics) a bed bigger than the usual standard, the free tea and coffee set and a fruit basket to welcome the new guests. Briefly, you will definitely want to stay there.
Two restaurants for less than forty rooms, a very convincing ratio, especially as the Boathouse Wine & Grill, the most sophisticated of the two (the other, the Gung Cafe, is a more conventional place offering Thai dishes and seafood), is considered one of the best restaurants in Phuket. The cuisine mixes European and local dishes in a marine environment all made of panelling, with an uncomparable argument: a spectacular wine cellar offering a very wide selection of good quality products.
Shorter than those of Patong, Karon or Bang Tao, Kata Beach is anyway one of the loveliest beaches in Phuket. Not very windy, with trees, it still has a small preserved side which gives it a lot of charm. The water of the Andaman Sea, of a good level of cleanliness and of satisfactory level, will meet the expectations of swimming lovers. However, note that it is really busy in high season.
