Hotel The Datai

To the Northwest of the island of Langkawi, the Datai is located forty minutes from the airport, which is located Southwest. The capital Kuah is 12 miles away from there, opposite the hotel, to the Southeast of the island. It is a good forty-five minute ride to get there.

The Datai's clients have the possibility of using the facilities of its neighbour the Andaman. The water sports club offers many activities. On the other hand, you will not find any motorized water sports. This was the hotel's choice in order to maintain the quietness for its clients on the beach, but also to protect the environment.
Finally, the hotel organises different excursions on the island, but it also has a botanist guide. The latter offers a morning stroll in the forest in order to show the clients the island's fauna and flora.

The decoration in the hotel's 109 rooms is of Malaysian and Japanese inspiration. Wood is the material that prevails, with pure lines and noble materials. The variations of beige, grey and white match perfectly with each other. On the other hand, the balcony of the standard room is not very big, it simply allows you to go outside to get some air. In addition, it is poorly insulated from the adjoining rooms. It is fully equipped: air conditioning, television, safe, mini-bar with tea and coffee kit, direct line for international calling and room service 24h a day. The marble bathroom is about two-thirds the size of the room. You will be able to choose between a shower and a bathtub, with a visible double washbasin. Available: hair dryer, bathrobes, and welcome products. A large dressing room is also in the same place.

The Datai extends over 1,200 hectares of land. It is a beautiful architectural set hidden in the middle of a rain forest populated with hundred year old trees. The lobby is a pleasant area decorated with two large white horses, set up on each side of the swimming pool. On the left is the concierge service, on the right, the reception area. The furniture is in different shades of wood, matched with the roof built with the same material. You can already make out a beautiful view here, of the surrounding forest and the sea, in the background.
The hotel is built on four stories in steps towards the sea. The first rectangular swimming pool is below the reception area, facing the main restaurant. The second one is on the same level as the beach. The atmosphere there is calm, punctuated by the birds singing and the little screechings of the monkeys.
The Datai's Mandara Spa is a benchmark in Malaysia. Built like a traditional Malaysian village, it has four villas containing fifteen treatment rooms. It offers a large choice of treatments and Asian massages. Sundari brand products are used.

The Datai has three restaurants that offer different cuisines. The Dining Room, the main restaurant,operates as a buffet or a la carte for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are a la carte. The menu offers Malaysian and Eastern specialities. It is possible to have dinner inside an air conditioned dining room, surrounded by large bay windows, but also outside, facing the swimming pool. The Pavilion deals with Thai specialities and is built on stilts facing the sea. It is open only for dinner. Finally, the Beach Club, the bar at the swimming pool, offers a menu of light dishes for lunch.

The building has its own beach that is shares with its neighbour the Andaman. All the beaches are public in Malaysia, however, there is no access other than these two hotels. The sea there is very clam since the bay is protected from the wind. Thailand is only 5 miles away, so you can clearly see its coasts. The water is clear and the sand soft. On the other hand, the tides give a silty texture to the sand in the water.
