Hotel Catalunia Punta del Rey

Situated on the east coast of Tenerife, the small seaside resort of Las Caletillas, 2 mi from Candelaria, is also only 9 mi south from Tenerife's capital city, Santa Cruz. The Catalonia Punta del Rey is located some distance away from the sea, so there isn't really a beach nearby. Tenerife's southern airport, Reina Sofia airport, is 36 mi away, and so be sure to allow 40 minutes for transfers.

Children are welcome here, and there is a play area and a children's club at their disposal, without forgetting the games room with video games, a pool table and a table tennis table, a miniature golf course, a table football table and a television room with a DVD player. A car park is available for a fee. The hotel's two meeting rooms can seat up to 250 people. The Catalunia Punta del Rey is located in the town centre, therefore benefiting from the proximity of the many bars, restaurants, night clubs and other facilities. There isn't a beach in the vicinity, however.

The Punta del Rey is a member of the Spanish hotel group Catalunia, but it is not a new hotel, since it has been open to guests since 1974! This hotel is housed in two characterless 7 and 9 storey tower blocks, providing a total of 437 guest rooms. It has two swimming pools, supervised from 10:00am to 6:00pm. The first one is long (50 metres) and is 1.2 metres deep. The second one, 3.5 metres deep, is ideal for having a go at some scuba-diving, organised here on a regular basis. The solarium is set out with deckchairs, parasols, showers, toilets and a table tennis table. Bath towels aren't provided, though. Every night, at 10:00pm, shows are performed in a room with a capacity of 440 guests, and then the night club takes over until 2:00am. If you want to keep fit, head for the sauna (available for a fee) or the rather basic gym. Furthermore, guests can have a massage and be pampered at the beauty salon, or even get a new look at the hairdresser's.

All 437 guest rooms of the Catalunia Punta del Rey are identical. Decorated with parquet flooring and white walls, they are equipped with a luggage rack, a wooden desk and large closets covered with mirrors. All have air-conditioning combined with a fan, a large flat-screen satellite television broadcasting 50 channels, a large digital-code safe (available for a fee) spacious enough to fit a laptop inside, a telephone, and a large balcony fitted with a round table and two wicker chairs, offering a side view of the sea. A beautiful Van Gogh painting hangs above the bed. There is no fridge, no mini-bar and no Internet access, however. Room service is available from 9:00am to 12:00am. The red-marble bathrooms, adorned with flowers, include a bathtub fitted with a handle and a flexible shower head, a bidet, a toilet, a hair-dryer and hospitality products of the Catalonia brand.

The Catalunia Punta del Rey has two restaurants. The main one is a buffet restaurant, with a capacity of 650 guests, so the room is bound to remind you of a canteen, as it becomes very noisy. Having said that, its location is rather pleasant, since the bay window looks out onto a rocky outcrop planted with palm trees, where a waterfall flows from a pond crossed over by a wooden bridge. The cuisine served is international and the special Canarian night that is takes place here once a week is always something to look forward to.
Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 10:00am, lunch from 1:00pm to 3:30pm, and dinner from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. At the second restaurant, the meals are prepared on a barbecue; it is open for lunch only, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The room, which has black and white check tile flooring, can accommodate up to 200 guests. You will also be able to get some food at the pool snack bar, open from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
