Hotel Biokovo

The hotel is located on the board-walk of the city of Makarska, close to cafes, very lively in the evening, facing the harbour, and very close to the beach. For transfers from and to Split airport, 46 miles away, count 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The Biokovo is the best located hotel in Makarska, in the city, between seaside and culture. The dock to Brac island is nearby. The hotel has a private parking area.

Although the hotel was built in the eighties, its architecture is strongly inspired by 19th century middle-class homes, in Brace white stone. With 3 storeys, the Biokovo has 55 rooms renovated in 1997. A large terrace and a cafe are located on the ground floor. No elevator, no garden.

The rooms are spacious (215 square feet) and comfortable. They feature satellite television, a telephone with direct international access, air conditioning, and a mini-bar. Shower in the bathroom. All rooms overlook the sea and the harbour. Furnishing is simple and sober. Request a room on the third (last) floor: from the large terraces, the view of Hvar island is magnificent. The other rooms have balconies. There is a safe at the front desk. Bathrooms have a shower, a hair dryer, welcome toiletries, and heating.

Ficus, banana trees and other trees planted under a light well make the dining room very pleasant. The chef serves international and Croatian cuisine (fish or meat with olive oil, spices, often with salad, beets, and potatoes).
Theme culinary week in high season: Dalmatian, French, Italian, or Hungarian dishes. The breakfast buffet is abundant and the service is satisfactory. Lunch and dinner are served at the table. The bar offers a delightful terrace overlooking the harbour. Next to the restaurant, a pizzeria also offers numerous Italian specialities.

Located at a five minute walk from the hotel, the public beach is one of the prettiest beaches on the Dalmatian coast: 1 mile of clean - although coarse - sand, and crystal clear water. It is ideal for children who can safely learn how to swim here. In the summer time, the beach is often crowded. Water sports base and paying deckchairs belonging to the neighbouring Meteor hotel.
