Hotel Mara Explorer

To reach the Mara Explorer, you will have to drive the 200 mi from Nairobi. Although it may seem close enough to you, it takes roughly six hours to drive there. The flight however is only 45 minutes long. The airfield is located a little over 1 mile away from the camp.

There are no facilities for children. This camp is intended for a clientele of couples. Mostly European and American.
As for excursions, the Mara Explorer organizes private safaris with a guide, but also meals out in the bush, a visit to nearby Masai villages, transfers if you wish to fish on Lake Victoria, as well as folk shows. The camp can also organize, via an exterior company, a balloon flight over the reserve. If you decide to go and trail animals early in the morning, a hot drink (coffee, tea or chocolate) will be brought to you in your tent.

Concealed by the greenery, the Mara Explorer is a camp with tents as charming as they are intimate. The common areas are beautiful and very peaceful, with a view of the Mara River. All the furniture is protected by a makuti roof. The ambiance is like that of old-time safaris. On one side, a small outdoor lounge is a good place fro, which to enjoy the landscape, on the other, the few tables constitute the restaurant. All the decorative details give the camp its particularity. In the evening, a bonfire is lit and the guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of the place.

The Mara Explorer consists of only ten tents and is better for it! Seven bedrooms are equipped with double beds and three have twin beds. They all face the river and are set up on stilts. They are nicely spaced out, which allows you some privacy. The large terrace is the place where you will make the most of the view and, on the side, the outdoor bath allows you to soak in the open-air. Inside, the ceiling is draped in white cloth adding an elegant touch to this beautiful setting. There is no mosquito net above the bed but there is on the windows. The parquet flooring matches the bed's wooden frame. The bathroom, open out to the bedroom, has a large shower as well as hospitality products. All made of wood, it is as elegant as the rest of the tent.

It is difficult to discribe the restaurant as such when you first arrive here. And this is what makes it so special. No immense hall with tables as far as the eye can see, but a convivial area where everyone can have a romantic dinner without being disturbed. It feels a little like home. Considering the number of tents, it is no surprise then, that the restaurant should be à la carte for every meal of the day. The menu is a different one every day of the week. The cuisine is a blend of local and international dishes. The chef even offers to satisfy any craving of yours!
