Hotel Metropol

The Metropol hotel is in the heart of Moscow, a stone's throw away from the Red Square and almost across the street from the Bolshoi Theatre on 1/4 Teatralny Proezd. There are several very close-by underground stations: Okhotny Ryad, Kuznetsky Most, Teatralnaya (the nearest) and Lubyanka. Sheremetyevo 2 international airport is located about 20 mi away (a journey of approximately one hour). Domodedovo international airport is 34 mi south-east of the hotel, allow therefore an hour and a half for transfers.

The Metropol hotel is ideally located if you wish to explore the Red Square and the Kremlin. Gourmets will enjoy the refined cuisine as much as the hall it is served in. Indeed, what better way is there to top off a day out and about than by relaxing at the spa or in the pool. WiFi internet access is available for a fee, throughout the hotel. Three computers are also provided for guests, but there is a fee for internet access. A foreign exchange service is available in the lobby. This hotel has a gym with state-of-the-art apparatus open from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Room service is available 24 hours a day and guests have free access to the hotel car park.

Listed as a historical monument, the superb 6 storey Metropol building dates back to 1901 when it was a theatre; it now holds a total of 363 guest rooms, including 72 suites. Renovated in 2001, it has a superb original wooden lift designed in the Art Nouveau style. The rectangular indoor pool (4mx6m) is 1m50 deep and heated to 26°C. The spa houses two large saunas (one for women, one for men) and two massage rooms. It is a good place to come and relax, with its massage rooms, a hairdresser, beauty salon, and an ultra modern gym. Between dips in the pool, you can lounge on a deckchair fitted with a comfortable mattress. This part of the hotel also houses the gym bar and a television lounge. The Metropol is a well regarded hotel that has welcomed guests as illustrious as Tolstoy, Lenin, Stalin, Jacques Chirac, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sharon Stone, whose photos are all on show in the Hall of Fame. The hotel also has 11 conference rooms.

Wide and elegant corridors fitted with pretty rugs lead the way to the rooms, which are all different from one another: enchanting and highly comfortable, they are fitted with carpet flooring, elegant wooden furniture, a chandelier, curtains, wall-paper, and paintings - the bedrooms of a princess! With a surface area of 226 to 269 sq ft, their amenities include a flat-screen satellite television showing 15 channels, individual air-conditioning, a fridge minibar (two bottles of water are offered by the hotel), a telephone, WiFi internet access available for a fee, broadband internet on the television screen (a keyboard is provided), a free electronic safe with a code, a desk, two armchairs, a square coffee table and a queen-size bed. The decoration is further improved by little objects such as a barometer or a little clock. There are actually over 1,200 ornaments in the Metropol's guestrooms. As for the bathrooms, which aren't very spacious, they are decorated with blue tiles and equipped with a bathtub fitted with a flexible shower head, a toilet, hospitality products, a hair-dryer, dressing gowns slippers, tissues, bathroom scales and a magnifying mirror. Room service is available 24-hours a day.

The Metropol has three restaurants and three bars and the most impressive one remains the restaurant hall with a stained glass roof, a master piece of the Art Nouveau style! It has a capacity of 150 guests and serves excellent Russian cuisine. Breakfast is served from 7:00am to 10:30am and dinner from 8:00pm to 12:00am. There is no lunch service though.
