RestThe Mykonos Theoxenia is open since 1996. The hotel accommodates families but more than 90% of the clientele is composed of couples. Its very modern decoration gives a certain style to the place but it exudes a rather cold beauty. Those who are looking for animation will be interested in moving to another place.
The hotel is situated in Kato Mili, at a stone's throw from downtown Mykonos, just opposite the famous mills of the city. Allow about a 10 minute drive to reach the airport, which is about 1 mile away.
The Mykonos Theoxenia is well situated as you can go downtown Mykonos on foot. There is also a bus stop 492 feet away from the hotel. Athletes will find no sports ground or water sports at the hotel but a diving school is located nearby.
Even if the hotel is part of the "Design Hotels" chain, its outward look does not give a hint of this: a large blue grid, which seems to have been abandoned, enables to penetrate inside the premises of the hotel where the semblance of garden is hardly welcoming. The buildings of the hotel are made of exposed stone, so there is some hope for the rest of the hotel! However, you would understand the hotel's appellation much better once inside. The Greek designer who decorated the place has left nothing to the chance: beautiful turquoise blue vases adorn the front of the reception area, and a seat is even hanging from the ceiling. Even toilets have been the object of special attention! The round basins are lit so that their red colour illuminates the whole room. The indoor bar, the Breeze-in, also reflects the spirit of the hotel: modern electric blue and green apple armchairs and sofas.
As for the hotel's swimming pool, the designer has managed to blend it into the scenery. It is surrounded by three window boxes filled with different species of trees and some flowers. Deckchairs and sunshades are installed around the swimming pool.
With 50 rooms, the Mykonos Theoxenia has only three standard rooms, rarely sold by tour operators. We thus visited a superior category room. It is a pity that the room is not more spacious... You have, however, the choice between a view on the garden, the seafront, or the sea. The place is "divided" into two parts: a sitting area with two large armchairs that do not really match the modern ornaments of the rest of the room. As for the bedroom, it is dominated by blue tones with some green and yellow touches here and there. The ambience reminds one of the 1960s. Even if there is little room around the queen bed, the space is still enjoyable. Guests can change the intensity of the light with the light switch regulators. As for equipment: a safe, air conditioning, a mini-bar, direct telephone line for international calls and a room service 24/7. There is even a medium-sized balcony with a table and two chairs. The bathroom deserves a special mention: the pink light suffices to illuminate the whole room. All in marble, here you will have the choice between a shower or a bathtub according to your wishes. A hair dryer and welcome products are also available for the ladies.
The main restaurant, The Plate, is open for breakfast and for dinner. It operates buffet-style in the morning, while it serves à la carte food in the evening. You will find the same atmosphere here: electric blue seats that look like Philippe Starck's design, modern paintings individually lit. The large picture windows enable you to face the sea while sampling both local and international cuisine. As for lunch, you would prefer dining nera the pool where the cuisine is rather Mediterranean.
Despite its seaside location, the Mykonos Theoxenia is not to be found by the beach but rather at the top of a cliff. Therefore, you will not find a beach in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The closest one at Megali Ammos is a rather nice stretch of sand, but the region has some much nicer ones to offer, such as Ornos, Platis Gialos, or Elia. Given the size of the island, the distance to get to any of these remains quite short. Driving slowly, it shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to reach the furthest one. Paradise beach and Super Paradise beach are particularly busy in high season. At the moment, the most fashionable and trendy beach is definitely Psarou.
