RestWith its comfortable rooms, a traditional restaurant of good quality and an access to the facilities of the Petinos Beach, this small hotel of intermediate category is a fine place to stay for family clientele.
The Petinos is some feet away from the beach of Platys Gialos, one of the most beautiful fine sandy beaches on the island and therefore one of the mostrenwn (the ambience of the French Riviera in the summer, with sunshades, bars and restaurants that have mushroomed along the beach). Mykonos, at a distance of 2.5 miles, is accessible via a regular bus service (the bus stop is in front of the hotel). The airport is also 2.5 miles away.
The Petinos is part of a small group of hotels (including the Petinos Beach, Neos Petinos, Nissaki, etc.) belonging to the same owner and located mostly in the southern part of the island. The main attraction of the hotels of this group is the possibility for clients of the Petinos to use equipment from other hotels of a superior class (swimming pool, gym, etc.). It is a family hotel (a lot of local people), highly valued for its relaxed atmosphere and the restaurant near the beach.
The first one of the Petinos hotels was launched in 1989 and renovated in 1999. The building in the traditional tones of white and blue houses 30 rooms. The corridors and the lobby are to some extent impersonal and the common reception area is inside the luxurious Petinos Beach hotel (across the street). You have access to the beautiful pool overlooking the sea and to the gym of the very Petinos Beach and the shop and sauna of the Nissaki (located 6565 feet away). Lovely garden with palm trees, orange trees and eucalyptus. The restaurant overlooks the beach and has a pleasant terrace.
With a modest surface (less than 160 square feet), each of the 30 rooms are decorated in ungraceful shades of pink and green and are equipped with a refrigerator, TV, air conditioning, direct telephone and a bathroom with shower (in the majority) and a hair dryer. Note the room service is provided from 8.00am until midnight.
You would prefer the terrace of the Taverna, the restaurant of the Petinos, as the interior dining space is less pleasant. Seated under a pergola and facing the bay of Platys Gialos, you can enjoy an extremely fresh local cuisine (fish, salads, grilled cheese, etc.) or rather international dishes, including many grilled meats. Some fifty tables are served from 11.30am to 11.30pm. Certainly one of the best restaurants in the area.
To the south of the island, Platys Gialos beach is one of the most crowded spots during high season. Otherwise, the place is known for its peaceful atmosphere, protected from the bustle of Mykonos's city centre. For comfort: deckchairs and sunshades. Only one problem: the accumulation of algae which litter the waterfront.
