Hotel Americana Inn

At 69 West 38th Street. Near 6th Avenue. The hotel is 17 miles from La Guardia airport, 17 miles from JFK, and 17 miles from Newark. It is located near metro lines B, D, F,N,Q, and R.

The lobby of the hotel is located on the second floor. You get there by elevator, through a traditional building entrance. For late departures, a room is provided for complimentary luggage storage. The Americana Inn does not have any food facilities. The owner, of Lebanese origin, speaks French.

The Americana Inn occupies the last 4 floors of a small unpretentious 5-storey building. It has 66 rooms, 17 of them belong to permanent residents, 14 double, 4 triple, and 17 single rooms (14 were being renovated when we visited). The hotel, although very clean, isn't very attractive because of its decor and the lack of facilities, which have been reduced to the strict minimum: a small reception area accessible by elevator, leads into the private entrance of the building, a counter with some touristic brochures and... one Internet access point. The hotel is well located, but in a rather noisy street. In short, a property without much interest, convenient for one night or two or for small budgets ($ 59 a night, with the discount, all the same!).

The rooms of the Americana are quite small, but the ceilings are high. They have minimalist decor but are bright and clean. They have television (only 12 channels), air conditioning, and a sink. About the bathrooms; here is the problem, you have to go down the corridor, and share it with other guests (on the average, a bathroom for 3 rooms). Another important problem is the inadequate soundproofing that doesn't block noises from the busy street or the corridor that echoes.
