RestThe Palmanova Palace is an unpretentious hotel located a little far from the beach in the seaside resort village of Palma Nova. You may be surprised by its 4 star ranking. Children are not allowed to stay here.
Located in the seaside resort region of Palmanova, the hotel is nevertheless 400m away from the beach and 13 mi from the airport, which is approximately a half an hour's drive away.
The original facade was first preserved when the hotel was restored, later to be knocked down. You will be able to make out the sea in the distance from the 2 upper floors. The entertainment team consists of 2 or 3 members - depending on the number of guests - and is in charge of organising games such as Bingo or Trivial Pursuit. Singers come to perform 4 times in the week for live night-time shows.
Built in 1972, the Palmanova Palace was entirely renovated in 1990 and is part of the Hi Hotels chain. Previously it was called the Olympic hotel. The 193 guest rooms have a total capacity of 386 guests. The facilities are few and the common areas are clean but the smell in the lift is a little startling. The Mediterranean-coloured pool area is a mixture of ochre, blue, and white, and is the nicest spot at the hotel, even though it is a bit small when compared to the guest capacity of the hotel. A few yards from the entrance lies the hotel's free car park. As you enter the hotel, you will see the CE mark proving that a high level of quality in terms of hygiene and food safety is being met.
The guest rooms are very simple, as is their decor, and the furniture is made out of plywood. The balconies overlook the pool but also the exterior tinplate staircase. The furniture on the seventh floor has been renovated but this hasn't made a great difference. All of the rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a gold-framed mirror, satellite television, and a telephone. Using the safe requires the payment of a fee though. The amenities in the bathrooms include a small bathtub, hospitality products, and a hair dryer.
The restaurant serves basic national cuisine: salads, cold cuts, and different sorts of ham for starters, and fish, meats, and chips for the main course. You will find a microwave oven at your disposal to warm up your food up, as well as a toaster particularly intended for the hotel's British guests, who are known to enjoy toast and hamburgers. Meal times are organised as follows: 10:30am to 12:30pm, 3:30pm to 6:00pm, and 9:30pm to 12:00am. A dress code is in effect in the evening!
