The hotel is located near the crossroads of Boulevard Raspail and Boulevard Montparnasse, at the edge of the 6th arrondissement and just opposite the smart Rue Vavin, which leads to the Jardin du Luxembourg. This really is one of the most lively areas of Montparnasse, steeped in artistic history and home to legendary restaurants such as La Coupole and the Dôme, at which Picasso, Giacometti, Kessel and even Hemingway used to dine. Don't miss Montparnasse cemetery, where Charles Baudelaire lies alongside other celebrities. The emphasis in the district today is on the silver screen, with a plethora of picture houses in the area, and the restaurants and shops add to the sense of liveliness in the neighbourhood.
The first thing you notice on entering the Lenox is the enchanting scent of orchids, closely followed by the warm welcome. The impression of being on a journey in a far-off land is enhanced by the few statuettes, two teapots and an old wooden camera set on a bookcase that also provides a partition with the bar. This room has been renovated in shimmering red and black, giving it a really smart feel which is increased by the old photos and jazz music in the background. It features an honesty bar, based on the idea that originated in London whereby guests help themselves to drinks and fill out their bill themselves. This demonstration of trust by management has, to date, been a success.
The 52 rooms of the Lenox have a real fresh feel about them. They have been renovated in a conventional style but are impeccable, and some boast a balcony. They are not very big, but the light colours make up for this. The soft bed covered in Toile de Jouy would not look out of place on a weekend in the countryside. The bathroom is bright but without any particular distinguishing features. The rooms are provided with a television/internet console on which you can check your e-mails and enjoy the novelty of free access to a large selection of videos on request.
