On the oceanfront, close to Peyrebere and 1.2 mile away from Grand-Baie. To reach the hotel from the airport ( located 43.5 miles away), you will need a 1 hour and 30 minutes drive.
The Merville Beach offers a wide panorama and a beautiful beach ( which is not an usual thing in the northern side of the island ). In the same time, downtown Grand-Baie is very close for those wishing to enjoy its liveliness.
Built in 84 and renovated in 98, the Merville Beach is formed by a main building of 3 levels, completed by bungalows. It includes 169 rooms in all. Despite the thatched roof bungalows, the architecture is not very traditional. The lobby, specially, looks very cold without any opening to the swimming pool or the sea. Outside, however, the bar that overlooks the bay offers a very nice and airy architecture. The leisure areas that surround the pool remain limited, but the beach compensates this inconvenience.
The rooms' furniture is made of rattan with bright colours. The rooms are divided into two categories : standard and superior ( in the bungalows ). The superior rooms overlook the sea ; the others offer a view of the gardens and the swimming pool. All are equipped with a balcony or a sundeck, a mini-bar, air-conditioning, direct telephone line and TV. The bathrooms offer a bathtub and a hair-dryer.
Breakfasts and dinners are served buffet-style in the main restaurant. The themes of these buffets vary daily and a Mauritian evening is offered once per week. At noon, the snack-bar ''Le Badamier'', that overlooks the bay, offers a very nice setting ( rattan armchairs shaded by a thatched roof ) for eat a sandwich or a salad.
The beach is definitely the hot spot of the Merville Beach. Large and perfectly maintained, it closes the end of Grand-Baie towards Peyrebere. Deckchairs, mattresses and thatched sunshades welcome the leisure devotees. The water sports included are water ski, windsurfing, kayaking, pedalo and glass-bottomed boat. For a fee, you can practice diving, game fishing or take sea rides.
