Hotel Colon Guanahani

On the south coast of Tenerife, in Costa Adeje , 490 ft from the oceanfront, close to the new "Urbanizacion Playas del Duque" of Las Americas, a couple of miles from several golf courses. Located 10.5 miles away from the Tenerife Sur airport, it takes 30 minutes to drive to the hotel. The hotel is about 50 miles away from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital.

An upscale establishment, the Colon Guanahani hotel belongs to the same owners as the 5* Jardines de Nivaria  located right next door, and the Roca de Navaria Gran Hotel, also 5*, located a couple of miles north of Playa Paraiso. It does not have a mini-club, but a room near the pool is reserved for children in the daytime. A strong point for those who like to surf the web, Internet access is free on the two computers available for the clients in the lobby.

Lodging tips:

People with disabilities can be comfortably accommodated in 3 adapted rooms, and families can stay in the 4 rooms especially adapted for children. You should know that the standard rooms overlook the street and the double or the triple rooms overlook the pool or the garden, definitely much nicer.

Opened in 1990 and renovated in 2006, the Colon Guanahani hotel is a green building with two wings of 2 or   4 floors, served by 2 elevators and housing 154 rooms including 4 family units, 5 suites and 3 rooms for disabled guests. Sophisticated, the interior decoration matches wood and the marble in a neoclassic style, brightened up with pleasant colors. In the centre of the hotel, showers, beach chairs and beach umbrellas are spread out around 2 beautiful fresh water swimming pools ( including one integrating a pool for children), a nice tropical garden and a snack bar. As for leisure activities, the hotel offers squash, a free jacuzzi on the roof, a panoramic solarium, a sauna and a piano bar for the evenings.

Furnished in dark wood furniture and tiled floors, the rooms are a little sober. A doorbell allows you to anounce your arrival at the entrance, just like at home! ( without forgetting   the coat rack). The standard rooms have a view of the street; the others overlook the pool (additional fee) from the small furnished balcony equipped with a clothes line. All of them have a sofa-bed, a wooden desk equipped with a magnifying mirror, a direct telephone line, satellite TV (30 channels), individual air-conditioning, a safe-box (15 euros per week) and a paying mini-bar. Fresh and bright, the bathrooms have a bathtub  with a handle and flexible shower, non-separate toilet, welcome products, comb, handkerchiefs, bathrobe  slippers and a hair-dryer. Room service is available from 8 am to 10 pm.

Meals are served buffet-style in a restaurant that can accommodate 200 guests; it also has a sundeck with charming atmosphere, with a fountain close to the pool. Only the main dish is included on the menu that varies daily. The decoration is sober, bright and pleasant. The cuisine is internationally inspired, with Canarian, Spanish and Mexican specialties once a week. Breakfast is served from 7 am to 10:30 am (with freshly squeezed orange juice!)  and dinner from 7 pm to 10:30 pm.  For  lunch, the '' a la carte'' snack-bar at the side of the pool  offers lots of dishesNbsp; for clients  from 12:30 pm to 4pm.

To get to the public beach of Playa Fanabe, you need to cross the road and walk 490 ft.  The facilities (extra cost) include beach umbrellas, deck chairs, toilets  and showers. Water sports (notably parasailing, jet skiing and water skiing) and games for children are available. Supervised and well appointed, the volcanic black sandy beach( that quickly heats up in the sun)  is bordered by bars, restaurants, shops and games rooms.
