Hotel Fanabe Costa Sur

The hotel is some 750 ft from the sea, near to the new ''Urbanizacion Playas del Duque' of Las Americas, and only a couple of miles from various golf courses. The drive from Tenerife Sur airport, located approximately 11 mi away, will take around 20 minutes. The hotel is some 50 mi away from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island.

A member of the Canarian hotel group, GF Hotels, that also includes the hotels Costa Adeje Gran Hotel and the Noelia playa in Costa Adeje, the Fanabe Costa Sur Hotel is situated in a tourist area that includes a large shopping mall, bars and restaurants, among other things. On the hotel's rooftop, there is an area exclusively dedicated to nudists.

The Fanabe Costa Sur opened in 1994 and was entirely renovated in 2004. It occupies a dull, U-shaped, grey building with four floors and four lifts. It has 413 rooms, 200 of which are double rooms, 196 of which are family rooms, 5 of which are for people with disabilities and 12 of which are juniour suites. There are also 100 connecting rooms. The hotel has three swimming pools, including two rooftop pools that afford a nice view of the sea and the mountains. The third, larger swimming-pool which is shaped in the figure of eight and 6.3ft deep, includes a small wooden bridge and is heated in the winter (in the middle of the pool there is a small island with two palm trees). The swimming-pool is surrounded by deckchairs with mats, parasols (payable), a children's pool (1.2 ft deep) and a snack bar. One of the two rooftop swimming-pools has a solarium terrace for the exclusive use of nudists. There is also a fitness centre and a multi-purpose sports field nearby.

The rooms of the Fanabe Costa Sur Hotel are spacious (430 sq ft) and nicely furnished with wooden furniture, pretty paintings and a tiled floor. They also have a small furnished balcony, half of which have a sea view, whereas the other half look out onto the swimming-pool. All rooms have a direct telephone line, a flat-screen satellite television (30 channels), a paying key safe, a small empty fridge and adjustable air-conditioning. As for the bathrooms, they have a bathtub equipped with a handle and a flexible shower, a double washbasin, a magnifying mirror, a hair-dryer, a toilet and a bidet. However, you must bring your own toiletries as there are no hospitality products provided. The 12 junior suites are 650 sq ft and are fitted with a whirlpool bath.

The hotel has a restaurant called the Adeje which can seat up to 700 and has a terrace and a full-length bay window that looks out onto the swimming-pool. The meals are served as buffets and show-cooking is practised. The cuisine is mainly international, but once a week Canarian, Spanish and Italian food is served. Breakfast is served from 7:00am till 10:00am and dinner is served from 6:00pm till 9:30pm. At lunchtime, the Choza snack bar offers a menu with a wide variety of dishes that guests can enjoy by the pool, from 12:30pm till 3:00pm.

To get to the public beach of Playa Fanabe, you need to cross the road and then walk 900ft. The facilities on offer (for a fee) include parasols, deckchairs, toilets and showers. You can enjoy some of the many water sports on offer (in particular parasailing, jet skiing and water skiing) and there are games for the kids. Under the watchful eye of a lifeguard, this beach of black volcanic sand (that can get quite hot in the sun) has the advantage of a pleasant layout. You can follow the pedestrian path that runs along the beach and pop in to its numerous bars, restaurants, shops and arcades.
