FamilyVery spacious, this hotel is noticeable for its shaded lawns and its small private coves. Even if the establishment is large, you can easily have some privacy if you wish. A very nice place.

On the oceanfront, at the edge of the Pointe aux Canonniers, 3 miles away from Grand-Baie. To reach the hotel from the airport ( located 43.5 miles away ), you will need a 1 hour and 30 minutes drive.
The Canonnier has the particularity of being located on a field listed for its 18th century defensive site ( there are today a small fort lighthouse and a few cannons on the oceanfront ). Both spacious and intimist, it will also delight couples and families. Its open architecture allows you to live outside as much as possible. As for the '' layover-departure'', this is a bathroom ( equipped with a hair-dryer, towels and bath products ) that gives you a lot of time to get changed after your checkout : very practical if you still want to enjoy the activities, even in case of flight delayed.
Built in 1990, renovated in 1998 and then in 2005, the Canonnier is formed by a 2-level building shaped as a horseshoe. It includes 288 rooms in all ( including 20 family rooms ). The architecture in the common areas, that associates beams and thatched roofs is quite airy. The leisure areas nicely combine lawn, waterfall and shadow ( including a banyan tree with a huge trunk ). Two swimming pools are also offered, one being reserved for kids. The cannons on the oceanfront and the lighthouse ( where the mini-club is located ) are withnesses of the history of the estate ( military post from 1715 up to 1932 ).
The rooms' furniture is contemporary style, with white walls ( which creates a feeling of appeasement ) and light wooden furniture. The rooms are divided into three categories : standard, superior and family duplex. Half of them overlook the sea ; the others offer a view of the gardens and the swimming pool. All the rooms are equipped with a terrace, a safe, adjustable air-conditioning, direct telephone line and a TV. The bathrooms offer a shower and a hair-dryer ( a bathtub is added to these facilities in the superior rooms ).
Breakfasts and dinners are served buffet-style in the main restaurant. The themes of the buffets daily vary : Mauritian and international cuisine is offered here, some of the dishes being prepared in front of the clients. At noon, you can have a lunch on the oceanfront, at the snack-bar Le Planteur and in the evening, the a la carte restaurant Le Navigator allows you to treat yourself with fish and seafood : this oceanfront setting is warm and elegant. After 11 pm, the tables disappear and the Navigator becomes a disco !
The beach is divided into 3 small size coves, separated by heaps of rocks. They allow you to isolate yourself if you want, but in the same time, they limit the leisure area. Depending on the tides, the difference in height can be insufficient for bathting. As for the amenities, thatched sunshades, styrofoam relax and mattresses are available. The water sports included are nautical ski, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, pedalo and glass-bottomed boat. By paying an extra fee, you can go and do diving and game fishing.
