Woody welcomes you at the entrance of the hotel in Mexico colours. El Paso is a family hotel that prides itself as having the largest pool in Catalonia. When fall comes, it becomes the hotel the most empowered by the fever of Halloween.
The hotel belongs to the Costa Daurada leisure park like the PortAventura and the Caribe. A small train usually picks up clients of the different hotels to take them to the park. PortAventura lies close to Salou, the closest town 1,640 feet away, barely a 15-20 minute walk. A train station serves the park (some 1,640 feet away) directly in front of the El Paso hotel. Several other towns are located nearby, such as Cambrils (4 miles), Tarragone (6 miles), etc. By road, the Barcelona airport is an hour from the hotel (60 miles).
Out of the three hotels on offer on the PortAventura site, El Paso is the simplest and least expensive hotel. It closes its doors from late December to April. For Halloween, the 1st floor of the hotel is specially decorated with the colours of fear. The rooms display various themes. The Burn hotel, an annexe to the El Paso also opens for Halloween. Here, you will find a room decorated as a stage with false blood in the mirrors and bathroom blinds. The black colour dialogues with the low lighting of the chandeliers in the rooms. Between 9:00 PM and 2:00 AM, ghost actors enter and move around the rooms. Clients come here with their families to get them scared. Be careful, kids may get frightened. Avoid this period if you are not at all interested on this.
Breakfast: upon arrival, you will be asked to provide your breakfast schedule. In case the said day you have missed the boat, know that breakfast is only ready by 10:00 AM.
The magnetic card of your room can also be used for shopping in the park. You simply need to have it activated at the reception.
Our advice: the rooms of the main building on the outer part of the hotel (above the reception) overlooks the farms and fields backed by the sun. There is nothing else to see except the frequent train passing in the distance. To be avoided if the noise, although very little, disturbs your sleep!!!
Built in 2002, the hotel is located on two separate floors. On the ground floor, the main building houses a vast reception with several brightly-coloured sofas. Outside, you simply need to go round the open-air theatre to go up an enjoy the 20,982 feetē pool (under security). Floating on the water, an imposing ship invites you to play. The children's club is particularly big and well-equipped with a ball pool and toboggan. However, the decor is disrupted by the high and ceaseless music. The gym should be found at the site of the PortAventura hotel and is open to clients of the other hotels owned by the park. Our advice: go to the Caribe that is more spacious for excitement in case the weather does not allow for open-air shows.
All in all, the El Paso owns 501 rooms, including standard rooms, rooms designed for the disabled and some theme-based rooms for Halloween (on the 1st floor of the Burn hotel). The rooms can accommodate a maximum of 4 persons including children (bunk beds possible). Once you open your door, you are treated to a splendid room of about 322 feetē. The brick red tiles brighten up the pink, purple and cream shades to form a simple, soft and harmonious ensemble. A bed and furniture of straight-grained wood, two chairs and a cast iron mirror add a final touch to the sobre decoration. The tiny balconies are not fitted in all rooms. Equipment: safe (free but with an 8 pound deposit), telephone, airconditioning (hot/cold), and a TV with several channels. With its red shades, the bathroom with bathtub and shower is equipped with a hair dryer and fully-equipped toilet kit for adults and another for children.
Breakfast is served from 7:00 PM to 10:00 AM in the vast Buffet Merida that can take up to 650 people. The long buffet stretching out in several halls offers a broad variety of dishes. Here, you can find your ease. The characters of the park or Halloween arrive in the morning from 8:30 to 10:00 and at the Meditarranean buffet dinner from 7:00 to 11:30 PM. Special menus based on the theme of the moment are offered ā la carte at the Tex Mex restaurant known as El Coyote (180 seats). Here you will find a large majority of Mexican and Texan dishes served in a cinema-based decor. Light and fresh cuisine guaranteed. Lunch is served between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM in the ā la carte restaurants of the hotel. Be careful if you choose to have lunch in the hotel, you may feeling very lonely because everybody is in the park!!! Meals cost an average of 10 pounds. In addition: a pool-side snack-bar.
