Well locatedSleeping, eating, walking: if these three activities fill up your weekend, choose this hotel. You will spend comfortable nights, close to the historic centre. And even if we wanted to honour the quality of meals, impossible, as the hotel serves only breakfast.
This hotel is located in the very heart of Prague, on Hastalska. The Old Town Square is 10 minutes away on foot, the Charles Bridge is 15 minutes away. To reach the airport, located 10.5 miles away, you will need about 30 minutes.
Advice for lovers of "branded" hotels: the Maximilian is affiliated with the chain of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. This place promises comfort, service and an elaborate setting...
It is true, even better!
However, do not expect too much space in the rooms (172 ft²), or in the common areas (one bar area, a lounge-library opposite, no restaurant except for the breakfast room).
A lodging tip
There is an excellent view of the city from every part of the hotel: no jealousy! Except if you want to spend a budget on the suite equipped with a bathroom showing Starck design, the rest of the lodgings offers the same comfort. Perfect for sleeping (? cozy duvet, delicate bed-linen ), which suits guests sensitive to noise (there is none). However, it is not for families: the rooms are too small to add a bed, not to mention two beds!
Right from the recepton area, you will recognise that the hotel is of good standing: it looks more like a private lounge, plus the address is fashionable. The refined decor does not spoil the intimate atmosphere. However, in order to find chairs and tables, you must go to the mezzanine, where the bar is situated on one side and on the other side is the library. The bar is a smoking area, but you are not allowed to smoke in the library: but there is nothing to prevent you from borrowing a book to read while smoking a cigarette. Especially since there you can find illustrated books on the history of Prague (in Czech and English). Too tiring to read during your holidays? Then you can schedule an hour of massage in the Thai beauty parlour: refined ambiance, soothing music playing softly... It is a pity there is no fitness room: at that rate, lazy guests won't change!
A total of 70 rooms are housed on 5 floors. Their design evokes Art Deco, but a more detailed consideration by an experienced eye can see there is a serious effort to blend in with the contemporary with soft hues and strict lines. The attention to detail, from our point of view, transforms the room: laced leather chairs (same model in the restaurant). This approach is quite evocative and unexpected, just what is needed to dispel the feeling of a "chain" hotel (compared with the restrained decor). There is not much space in the rooms, the double rooms are 172 ft², but the pillows are soft, the mattresses are springy and the amenities beyond reproach. Two small bottles of water are supplied, bathrobes and slippers in the bathroom, personal skin care products branded The White Company (8 ounces), an umbrella-form handle above the bathtub, a metal hair-dryer.* And in the room, a TV and a DVD player (in addition to what you may have expected: air conditioning, a minibar, telephone and a safe).
Have breakfast in the morning: after it there is no catering service provided by the hotel. Especially the buffet, set up at the centre of the dining room, would not spare your appetite. The gastronomes will fill their plates with smoked salmon, bagels and cheese spreads. "Buxom" people will have tomato juice or orange juice (canned, alas), cut fresh fruit, yogurt and cereals. The curious will taste everything: slices of cheese, sliced meats, crispy bread scrambled eggs (or an omelette upon request), cakes and croissants. Yum, many major hotels in other capital cities would never ever offer you service like this. It is a beautiful day? So much the better: you can take your plate (and seat yourself) on the patio adjacent to the hall. No view, nothing but white walls, yet what a pleasure to dine outdoors!
