International StandardA hotel suitable for a stay outside the town centre without being too far from it either. It has a splendid view of Prague. In addition, the hotel has sports facilities, as it often hosts groups (for seminars and conferences). Comfort, service, and rooms neutraly decorated. Appropriate for this category of chain hotels.
The hotel is located on Mozartova street in the Smichov district, which faces Nove Mesto (the New Town) on the other riverbank. It takes 10 minutes by subway to reach the historic centre of Prague.
All rooms are spacious enough (270 ft²) to accommodate an additional bed. It can accommodate 3 people.
The difference between the standard rooms or the rooms of higher category is mainly the service. The higher category rooms offer a welcome drink (at the bar if you wish), a 15% discount on local phone calls and free Internet access at the business centre.
Go and try the hamam during your stay: it is available for free in the fitness centre (from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.) which is equipped with a game of changing lights to alternately stimulate and relax.
A lodging tip
Stay in the second building (upper building) and request a room overlooking the town (for an extra charge). A superb panorama of Prague and the river. In addition, you will have a kit for tea / coffee in your room.
Opened in 1996, the Mövenpick hotel consists of two separate buildings, one at the foot of a hill, the other at its summit. You commute between the two parts by a cable car. An original means of transport, during which you can enjoy superb views of Prague, but the incovenience is that you have to wait a little bit when it is crowded (morning and early evening). The difference between the main and the upper building is in the number of the rooms. There are nearly three times more in the lower building. So it is better to stay in the upper building, if you don't like a lot of people around you. Attention: the fitness centre, shop and cash dispenser are located in the main building. As for the decor, an ambiance of red in the lower and turquoise in the higher building. It is good to know: just beside the hotel is the Villa Bertramka, where Mozart stayed in 1787. He finished his opera Don Giovanni there.
There are 436 rooms in total, divided into 2 groups: 300 in the main building, 136 in the upper building. For an urban hotel, the accommodations are quite spacious: 270 ft² in the standard and executive rooms, 334 ft² for the suites. Each room is well-soundproofed, but not all of them have the same view. In the main building, the rooms predominantly overlook the road or the avenue lined with buildings. In the upper building, the rooms have a view in both directions (a panorama of Prague or a treed area with a few villas) which are quite attractive. As for the furniture and decoration, each room has a contemporary setting without being trendy. No problem: there are 37 channels available on the television, air conditioning, direct dial telephone, a minibar. The bathroom are spacious (a true asset), with a bathtub and a hair dryer. As for complimantary products, the standard rooms provide 2 Lux brand liquid soap dispensers; the rooms of other categories (superior or suites) are supplied with a selection of Carven brand products.
Each building has its own restaurant service (a bar and a dining room). The guests staying at the upper building have their breakfast in an area covered by a pergola, with a panoramic view of Prague. If the weather allows it, the terrace is set up for outdoor breakfast. With the surrounding park, you would almost think you are in the countryside. A terrace extends along the breakfast room of the main building, but the view is much less attractive (the highway). However, the tasty and well-presented buffet makes up for this disadvantage. It has everything from omelettes to fresh cut fruit, cereals, pastries, toast and sparkling wine. At lunch and dinner, the service is a la carte. International cuisine, Czech specialties (svikova) and Swiss cuisine (as the chain Mövenpick is of Swiss origin).
