Animation
Our pickThe Riviera Maya hotel is one of the latest Lookéa clubs. It has spacious and comfortable rooms, carefully designed decoration and dynamic animation programme. Located near the magnificent Mayan site of Tulum, it is ideal for families seeking relaxation tinged with cultural sightseeing. As for animation, an excellent team will accompany you throughout your stay.
This hotel review is a translation of the French version published on our French site Easyvoyage.com.
The hotel is located on the seafront, some 2,625 feet from the centre of Puerto Aventuras and some 19 miles from Playa del Carmen and its bus station. It takes one hour to reach Cancun airport, which is 51 miles away. A good advantage for the hotel is the fact that the check-in takes place during the shuttle ride from the airport. Customers quickly have their keys and the description of the services of the hotel at the counter, upon their arrival.
Please note that the Lookea Riviera Maya is dedicated to French visitors only. "We have not received any complaint from our customers at the end of their stay who, on the contrary, upon departure have expressed their pleasant surprise with the service provided».
The hotel shares its infrastructure and restaurants with its neighbour, the Catalonia Riviera Maya (formerly Cameleon Marival), frequented by an international clientele.
The animation team, composed of 7 persons, occupies the edge of the swimming pool to entertain tourists. Three times a week, common shows are staged for both hotels in the theater, located above the reception of the Catalonia. The large room, comfortable and air conditioned, had just seen its final finishing works during our visit. The bay windows, which had been removed for the works, were then replaced.
The Riviera Maya is marketed on full board as part of the "all inclusive" service. Each customer who wears a bracelet on presentation, entitles him, graciously and voluntarily, to all local drinks, whether alcoholic or not.
Open in the end of 2001, the Lookéa Riviera Maya has 200 rooms. They are located in a modern building, not devoid of charm, in "U" shape and rising on three floors overlooking the sea. The majority of the lodgings overlooks a central flowery bed where there are two pools inspired by Californian style, more flattering to the eye than suitable for lenghts of swimming. One of them is equipped with a water bar. Customers have access to all three swimming pools and Jacuzzis of the Catalonia. But they will have to share them with visitors from Catalonia, in equal share.
The rooms, which are quite spacious (430 ft² each) and functional, are effectively decorated in a Mexican Caribbean style. They open onto a terrace or a balcony (not very large) overlooking the swimming pools or 48 of them overlooking the beach, which are actually equipped with the more spacious balconies. They are equipped with individually adjustable air conditioning, satellite TV, radio, direct telephone for international dialling and a safe (paid). It is a pity: the lack of a mini-bar or a fridge. The bathrooms have all the comforts of a modern hotel. They have a bathtub, two sinks, a hair dryer, towels and personal skin care products in sufficient quantities.
Since the sharing of infrastructure of both hotels, the customers of the Lookea Riviera have a choice. The main restaurant offers an unobstructed view in part onto the beach (not illuminated at night). The furniture is made of wood and the design is carefully selected. It greets customers around a buffet for all three meals round the clock. The dishes (Mexican specialties and international cuisine) are quite varied and presented copiously. The chef proposes mainly finely carved meat. Thematic evenings are organised twice a week. At breakfast, omelets, crepes or pancakes can be prepared upon the customer's request.
The second buffet, air conditioned, with a terrace overlooking the swimming pools of the Lookéa offers pretty similar cuisine. On the top level, you will find among other things a pancake house.
Furthermore, upon reservation, you will have access to the restaurants serving a la carte Mexican, Italian and grill cuisine, located in the hotel neighbouring Catalonia. Also, a snack and two bars invite you near the lagoon, next to the Catalonia, and two other bars are situated next to the Lookéa.
Easy access from all living spaces of the hotel (rooms, restaurant and swimming pools), the beach offers all the qualities of a postal card: pristine white sand, turquoise water lagoon and coconut trees. In fact, some drawbacks should be noted: when you say "lagoon" you actually mean coral reef and corals in the water near the edge (wearing plastic sandals is also advisable); when you say "a small strip of sand" it means confinement as soon as all clients flock on this beach. You can still find a place a little further away.
Strong positive side: the number of deck chairs (400 for customers), the proximity of the two swimming pools, so you can easily switch from one pleasure to another, and the presence of showers outdoors.
Note also the availability of a boat club (some sailboards, canoes, jet skiing, pedal boats SPAN> and two catamarans).
Finally, a lagoon on the Catalonia's side offers a quiet area for swimming, ideal for families with children.
