Hotel International

To the north of Tenerife, on the heights of Puerto de la Cruz in a residential area, 1.5 miles from the town centre. To reach the hotel from the Los Rodeos airport north of Tenerife, located 18.5 miles away, will need a 30-minute drive and 1:30 from the Tenerife Sur airport located some 68 miles away. The hotel is some 25 miles away from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the Island.

Although the International hotel is quite removed from the beaches and town centre of Puerto de la Cruz, a free shuttle drops you close to the Martianez shopping centre of the Lago Martianez and the Playa Martianez from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (except on Saturday afternoons and Sundays). The last trip back to the hotel is at 6:30 PM: Do not miss it! A barber and beauty salon can be found in a small rotunda by the swimming pool.

To honeymoon lovers, we recommend room 124 with its large marriage bed. The other rooms only have two separate beds.

Built in 1972, the International hotel was renovated in 1998. It is equipped with 112 rooms spread out in a white building with very little charm on 6 floors. The interior is more charming with a more appealing atmosphere and an original decoration comprising historical objects, such as an original model of a horse-drawn coach dating back to 1858. The rectangular feshwater pool heated in winter is well laid out in the middle of a 26,900 feet² tropical garden with a basin, a fountain, alleys of flowers, lovely tropical trees and benches from which one can admire the lush setting. In the pool, children can enjoy the short course and a playground. The 8.5 feet deep pool is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Deck chairs, mattresses and toilets are readily available. A television room is equally open for distraction with table tennis and billiards (found in most of the Canary hotels).

The International hotel has 112 rooms, including 11 mini-suites with lounge, an apartment, 92 double rooms (including 40 convertible into triple rooms fitted with davenport) and 8 single rooms. All rooms are well equipped with a patio or large well-designed balcony offering a view of the sea or Teide volcano (when it deigns to rear its nose), a satellite television with 19 channels (remote control available at the reception desk), direct telephone with international line, a safe (11 pounds per week plus a 6 euro deposit) and two separate beds (double beds are only offered upon request provided they are available). Conversely, there are neither fridges nor airconditioning, which are not so necessary in the land of eternal springtime. However, if you are cold in winter where temperatures can drop below 20°C, a radiator is available to cold-sensitive persons. The decoration is quite warm with tableaux, wall covering and floor carpeting. The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub (without handset contrary to most of the hotels in the Canary) fitted with flexible shower, toilets (in same space) and a bidet. On the flip side, there is neither hair dryer, nor hospitality products, safe for two bars of soap.

The International hotel houses a buffet restaurant offering three services. Breakfast is ready from 7:30 to 10:00 AM, lunch from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and dinner from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. An à la carte menu is equally offered as a supplement. You can equally snack on light meals at the snack-bar of the pool that is open from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Besides the pool-side bar open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the La Calesa bar in the lobby equally offers a wide variety of drinks and cocktails. It takes over after the pool-side closes from 5:00 PM to midnight.

Slightly removed towards the heights, the International hotel is far from the town centre and beaches. A free shuttle drops clients at the Martianez shopping centre downtown Puerto de la Cruz. The Playa Martianez is just nearby. It does not offer bathing facilities and its equipment are rather restricted. Beware of waves and currents that are often quite strong. Many people prefer to bathe at the Lago Martianez nearby, with its giant sea water pool that encompasses the casino like a lake.
