Hotel Maritim Tenerife

On the north coast of Tenerife by the seaside, the Los Realejos community approximately 1 mile away west of the Puerto de la Cruz town centre and 1,640 feet from the Loro Parque animal park. To reach the hotel from the Los Rodeos airport north of Tenerife, located 18.5 miles away, will need a 30-minute drive and 1:30 from the Tenerife Sur airport located some 68 miles away. The hotel is some 25 miles away from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the Island.

A member of the German chain of Maritim hotels, the Maritim hotel boasts 376,600 feet² of tropical gardens including 300 tropical plants and a nudist garden close to the tennis courts. It equally houses a full-time medical service, a massage parlour and two saunas. The hotel is fitted with a smokers' room where one can watch television, a magnificent mini-golf course and a free fitness centre open until 10:30 PM. A white magnetic card is needed to access the different areas (pools, gardens, fitness centre) through turnstile gates. In the elevators, the card of the room will lead you directly to your floor. Party animals can go to the Coco Loco night club open from Wednesday to Saturday. One can equally find English magazines and newspapers at the Bazar Mausi in the lobby.

The rooms on the seaside offer an absolutely splendid vista of the endless ocean and the shredded black cliffs, especially from the highest rooms of the building.

Built in 1985 and renovated in 2004, the Maritim hotel comprises an 18-storey grand blue tower served by 4 elevators and made up of 298 rooms, including 32 connecting rooms, 8 junior suites and 2 luxury suites. The standard decoration uses wood and marble, all decked out in a spacious setting. The lobby includes a magnificently designed plaza with a tank full of fish surrounded by shops all lighted naturally under a glass pyramid. At the foot of the hotel, clients can enjoy a pool heated at 23°C with a children's section enhanced by deck chairs, parasols, dressing booths, towels (provided for a deposit at the reception) and the Corsario pool snack-bar open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On the rear side, a bridge crossing the road offers access to the vast 376,600 feet² gardens that house a multisports playground (volleyball, football, basketball), a second 8-shaped unheated pool decorated with a small cascade, and equipped with a volleyball net and basketball loop, surrounded by a sundeck patio and the Humbolt pool snack-bar open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The garden equally houses the splendid mini-golf course located on the roof of the Betacar-Europcar parking lot, a free gym and a nudist area. At the very end of the garden lies an immense and magnificent swimming pool.

The comfortable rooms with a surface area of 323 feet² are fitted out with traditional brown wood furniture with a carpeted floor. Half of the rooms offer an awesome and bird's eye vista of the sea, while the others open up to the gardens, the pool and the Teide volcano (when it deigns to rear its head). Equipment include a lounge area, a well-designed balcony offering a breathtaking view of the sea, a direct phone line, an electronically-coded safe large enough to take a laptop computer (for 12 pounds per week plus a 8 pound deposit) and a paid mini-bar, satellite television, adjustable airconditioning and a complete white and bright bathroom (fitted with handset and flexible shower), hair dryer and Yves Rocher shampoo dispenser. The bathroom equally has a non-separate toilet and a bidet. The upper-class rooms offer dressing robes, bedroom slippers, handkerchiefs, and a magnifying mirror.

The hotel is equally home to 3 restaurants offering different packages. Bordered by long glass panels opening to the sea, the main restaurant "Mar Oceano'' offers meals in the form of a buffet. It alternates between theme-based buffets (Canarian, Mediterranean....) and international menus. Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 10:30 AM and dinner from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. The Trattoria La Taverna pizzeria with a patio and panoramic view of the Orotava valley offers light meals for lunch. The à la carte La Marea restaurant reserved for clients of upper-class rooms equally serves Canarian and international dishes. Set in a delightful and tranquil environment, it offers an upper-class lunch from 7:30 to 10:30 AM and a gourmet dinner from 6:30 to 11:00 PM. The room with a capacity of 18 places is magnificently decorated based on the marine theme with a sample ship, an aquarium, fishing nets, ropes and starfish. A panoramic area offers a bird's eye view of the sea and dark cliffs behind the large glass panels. In the evening, musicians provide fun and excitement at the Barlovento piano bar from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Getting to the beach will require covering a distance of roughly 2,625 feet downhill (climbing back is much tougher!!!). We will recommend a much nicer route that starts at the end of 655 feet from a small chapel: turn left and follow the small footwalk bordering the cliffs lines with typical Canary-style houses of pastel colours erected on the flanks of the cliffs. On bright days, one can see the La Palma island. Closely watched and well maintained, the Playa Jardin, designed by the renowned artist Lanzarote César Manrique is quite large. Carpeted with fine black sand, it is lined with countless Canarian gardens that house different species of cacti, and bordered by a long foot walk with numerous bars and restaurants. Equipment include parasols, deck chairs with mattresses, a beach volley court, toilets and showers. Water sports and games are readily available for children. However, beware of the waves and currents that are often quite strong.
