Hotel Melia Caribe Tropical

Located in Punta Cana, the touristy epicentre in the country with its 25 miles of beach, between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, on the southwest coast of the Dominican Republic, the Melia Caribe hotel is some 37 miles away from the bustling town of Higuey ( 1 hour ) and 3h30 away from Santo Domingo, the capital town of the Dominican Republic. The airport of Punta Cana is 15.5 miles away from the hotel ( 20 minutes ).

The Melia Caribe is one of the best hotels in Punta Cana. This large resort, twin of the Melia Tropical, its neighbour, stands out for its beautiful architecture, the refinement and the modesty of its decoration, its size, its huge swimming pool and its magnificent tropical garden. The Melia Caribe, unlike the Melia Tropical for families, is aimed at couples, businessmen and newlyweds on honeymoon. Given the quality of its services, entertainment programs and accommodation, it has already won regular customers.

This resort, opened in 1999, is a small paradise. Fancy decoration, tropical environment, a lagoon pool, nothing has been left to chance. And it is evident. The major asset of this hotel is its ecological garden, its mangrove and its beautiful pink flamingos. Even better, the 22 buildings, each with 24 rooms ( a total of 522 rooms ), fit ideally in a park which is almost perfect. A special focus on the spa, a kitsch allusion to the Roman baths. The disadvantage : you have to take the little train because the distances are long ( 650 meters from the lobby to the beach ).

The 522 rooms of the Melia Caribe hotel have a lounge area and are housed in bungalows of two levels. Tastefully decorated, they are all very spacious ( 42 m² ) and comfortable : air conditioning, satellite TV, a fridge-bar, a bathroom with a bathtub, a hair dryer, a safe and a terrace. For lovebirds or newlyweds, ask for the honeymoon accommodations with an integrated round bathtub ... The 24 rooms overlooking the waterfront are the most sought-after ones.

The six restaurants, semi-open or air-conditioned, offer a high quality varied cuisine. Particularly the three restaurants serving a la carte, upon reservation : the Gourmet, a gastronomic restaurant, the Japanese restaurant and the Mediterranean restaurant, open in the evening. The main buffet, the steakhouse on the beach and the Mexican are also very decent.

The beach of the Melia Caribe hotel, the Playa Bavaro, is the most famous in Punta Cana. With its translucent water and white sand, it is difficult not to be seduced ! The beach extends far beyond the horizon, although it does not belong only to the hotel ; the neighbouring resorts share this beach. The only problem : the nagging noise of the boat engines, which pass continuously all day long. The beach of the Melia Caribe hotel provides many deckchairs, straw huts and houses the water sports centre, which offers a wide range of activities.
