International StandardA recent simple but comfortable hotel, the Sunflower is particularly convenient for a stay combining beach, discovery and night parties in one of the numerous bars in the centre of Saint-Paul's Bay.
In the centre of Saint-Paul's Bay, 500 m away from the seafront. Valetta and the airport are located 12.4 miles away. Allow about thirty minutes for the transfer.
The beach of Saint-Paul's Bay, located 500 m away from the hotel, is a rocky beach which is hardly suitable for lazing around, unless you go to one of the fitted out and paying areas. The closest sandy beach is in Mellieha, 6.2 miles away from there. A bus service runs several times per day between Saint-Paul's Bay and Mellieha at a very affordable rate.
Opened in 2003, the Sunflower is not very different from other hotels in Saint-Paul's Bay as for its exterior architecture. On the other hand, the interior is convivial with its human-size lobby, brightened by lounges made in woven string. Like many Maltese hotels, the outdoors relaxation areas are located on the top floor. The pool, bordered by mini-gardens ( which is rare ), is approximately 10 m x 3 m. It is equipped with a pool-bar. Nearby is a small swimming pool for children. The terrace, which overlooks the town, has deckchairs and sunshades. The bathtowels are extra. If you are coming out of season, you can do some strokes in the indoor pool ( 7 x 4 m ) which has a jacuzzi area.
Or the 108 rooms, 29 are provided for families. Compared to standard rooms, they can accommodate 3 people and are equipped with a tea/coffee set. To be chosen also by couples preferring to have more space since the double rooms only have an area of 15 m˛. All have a balcony ( with plastic table and armchairs ) which, unfortunately, do not overlook the bay but the buildings around the hotel. The furniture, made in natural pinewood, is simple and and rustic. On walls painted in white, a watercolor framed with fair wood shows a Maltese life scene. On the other hand, the telephone line is direct and a fan has been installed as well as air conditioning. However, there is not mini-bar and the use of the safe is extra. The bathrooms have a bathtub and a hair dryer.
With wrought iron furniture and walls decorated with watercolors, the restaurant is pleasant although slightly dark. It overlooks a small terrace where you can sit to take your meals. Do not expect too much from the panorama since the walls surrounding the terrace completely obstruct the view. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style. In the morning, the dishes offered are cold meats, cheese, cereals, Viennese pastry and bread rolls. Eggs, bacon and fried tomatoes are extra. In the evening, meat and grilled fish, pasta, green vegetables, French fries and mixed salads offer a variety of choices. Maltese specialities are served once a week.
