RestThe Mallorca Palace is a very comfortable high-standard hotel, located in the summer resort of Sa Coma. Nothing negative about the facilities, but the atmosphere is not really there. The absolute quiet is to be appreciated.
The hotel is located 4 miles north of Porto Cristo and its charming fishing port, in the touristic city of Sa Coma, 40 miles east of Palma and the international airport. About one hour driving will get you to the hotel.
The hotel is located in the city of Sa Coma, a summer resort built in the 80s to satisfy the increasing demand for accommodations for tourists. It offers a large number of facilities, bars, restaurants and small shops. But you will deal with foreign clients, English and German, most of the time. A few miles south, there is a lovely fishing port. There are also numerous ''calas'' (coves) and their turquoise waters along the coast wh?ch you can discover if you rent a car. We strongly recommend them!
The Mallorca Palace is easily identifiable from the outside, because of its windmill, its 700 year old olive grove and its Mallorcan architecture and tile roof. It cons?sts of two units on three levels, disposed in an ''L'' shape, forming a large hacienda (ranch) that overlooks the luxuriant gardens, the 3 pools and the bar. The enormous lobby, has luxur?ous dark wood furniture and crystal chandeliers from the Mallorcan factory, Gordiola. In the nearby rooms, there are paintings by Mallorcan painters and columns of visible stone: the restaurant, the snack-bar and the play room. This last one offers a cosy ambiance with exposed wooden ceiling beams, its floor and large chimney. The first floor of the entrance hall has a pleasant heated pool, wooden flooring and a large bay window, a hairdresser with massage rooms, a sauna and a Turkish bath. Nothing to add on the decoration nor the setting. But the ambiance is missing, despite the warm welcome of the personnel. Where are the clients? A slogan for this hotel: rest!
Unmistakably the best thing about the hotel. The access to the 99 standard rooms is by elevators located in the reception hallway. On each floor, there are large windows lighting the hallways, a blue-pattern carpet and paintings on the pale-pink and yellow walls. There are also 15 suites, located in front of the reception area. The standard rooms are spacious (more than 215 feetē) and carefully decorated. They have marble floors, a living room with furniture made of blue rattan in contrast with the yellow walls and matching fabrics. The setting is harmonious. All rooms have individual air-conditioning, satellite TV, a direct international telephone line, a free safe, a full mini-bar (with chips and peanuts), a bathroom with two basins, a hair-dryer, non separate toilets and a few welcome products. The balconies, equipped with two comfortable armchairs and a beige rattan table all overlook the gardens and the pool. You only feel sorry about the closeness of some the rooms.
The hotel restaurant, buffet style, also has a luxurious decoration: comfortable furniture in dark wood, tables impeccably set up with white tablecloths, well-separated, in a rectangular room. Too bad the large bay window overlooking the patio only lights up a portion of the room. For breakfast and dinner you may have international, Mediteranean and Mallorcan cuisine. In addition, a show-cooking space offers meat grills and fish. The choice is large, considering the number of rooms of the hotel. For lunch, you can choose the pool bar, that offers meats, fish and a typical Spanish cuisine in addition to the classic sandwiches and pizza.
820 feet away, the beach of the hotel is Playa de Sa Coma. With fine, white sand and clear water, it has a marine base that allows you to practice windsurfing and rent pedalos. There are lots of beach chairs (for a fee) and straw huts. The large number of hotels that share the beach causes over-crowding. A long beach goes all the way to S'Illot, to the south of a small beach in a cove shape called Cala Moreya.
