Hotel Boucan Canot

The hotel is located on the beach of the Boucan Canot, 2 miles north of Saint-Gilles and 19 miles from the airport at Saint-Denis. For the transfer, you should plan about 30 minutes to an hour and a quarter, depending on traffic.

Situated on a rocky spur at the northern end of the beach in Boucan Canot, the hotel offers a panoramic view of the lagoon, but it does not have space reserved on the beach. Beach and sun enthusiasts should be aware that the beach in Boucan Canot is very popular among residents of La Réunion and during the weekend, the atmosphere is truly festive, even a little noisy. The hotel, however, has managed to maintain an island of peace around the swimming pool. Those who want privacy will prefer this place.
The centre of Saint-Gilles is very close, so it is not necessary to rent a car unless you want to visit the surrounding areas and the rest of the island during your stay.

Renovated in 2001, the Boucan Canot has the exterior appearance of a traditional Creole house and on the interior it is both modern and welcoming. At the reception, as in the rest of the hotel, wood mingles with stone and glass to create a clean setting that soothes the eye, while demonstrating a great touch of originality. Sculptures and paintings by local artists complement the decoration. On the outside, the terrace hosts a sun lounge and a swimming pool of 1,075 ft² overlooks the Indian Ocean. You may linger with pleasure by the water, comfortably installed on a padded deckchair, in the shade of a canvas parasol. To enjoy an even more spectacular view of the lagoon, gardens planted with coconut, banana trees and exotic flowers extend from the terrace.

The 50 units (including 8 suites) of the Boucan Canot are spacious and nicely decorated with wood and stone. They all overlook the sea and are extended by balconies with garden furniture made of plastic. In the suites, the sloping roof expands the room for more space. Equipped with a kit for tea / coffee, they have a bathroom with a huge shower, a bathtub, bathroom scales and bathrobes. They also have the same facilities as the standard rooms: air conditioning, a safe, a mini bar, telephone and satellite television.

Particularly popular in Saint-Gilles, the restaurant of Boucan Canot is an address where you can go to enjoy high-class gastronomy. The menu is definitely mouth-watering, with items such as ostrich carpaccio, swordfish with almond and duck leg confit. Situated in a loggia overlooking the lagoon, the room is very fancy: white and blue tablecloths, porcelain dinnerware, polished cutlery and sparkling glass. At one end of the room, a space is reserved for breakfast. Served buffet style, there is a nice selection of bread, ham, cheese, pastries and fresh fruits.

The Boucan Canot overlooks the public beach of the same name. It does not provide any facilities. Attention, the bathing area is limited because of the sea currents on one side and the rocks on the other side. Obey the road signs! Sandals are not recommended as they can damage the ecosystem of the lagoon, but you must be careful, because there are rocks and coral debris in the water. Covered with different grades of sand, the beach is relatively quiet during the week and overcrowded during the weekends.
