East of Salvador, between Abaete dunes and Itapua beach. The airport is 4.5 miles away. Count 15 minutes for transfers by taxi.
The Sofitel Salvador Bahia is located in the background of Itapua beautiful beach. A remarquable accommodation in its category, this hotel has the advantage of being close to the airport. It is a good address for a varied stay in Bahia. Indeed, even though the hotel is not on the seafront, it has a reserved, well-fitted area on the beach, a 5 minute walk away.
Golf enthusiasts can play on the 9-hole course in front of the hotel. Activities available include tennis, squash, initiation to scuba diving in a swimming pool, and sea diving. A comprehensive wellness centre is available for relaxing or trying shiatsu massages.
For those who are interested in the cultural treasuries of Bahia, the Sofitel offers a shuttle. Count approximately 20 minutes to reach the city.
Built in 1991, the Sofitel was renovated in 2001. This large, white, 8-storey building dominates a beautiful park with trees that includes the golf course and the hotel gardens. Marble predominates in the sober and unadorned lobby. Outside, a 5,380-foot swimming pool combines aesthetics and convenience: it allows for 82-foot laps. Deckchairs, towels, and parasols are scattered aroung the large solarium and on a central islet accessed through a wooden bridge. For those who want to stay fit, the hotel offers a fitness room with a view of the gardens. Sauna, hammam and jacuzzi are also available to relax after a tennis match or squash game.
Half of the 204 rooms of the Sofitel overlook the sea; the remaining rooms overlook the swimming pool. Request a room on the 7th or 8th floor to enjoy the widest panorama. The rooms are medium sized (355 feet²); they have a small balcony and are furnished in a sober, contemporary style. However, they are very comfortable: large rug around the bed, desk/vanity, mini-bar, air conditioning, direct telephone and satellite television. Bathrooms are small and feature a shower and welcome toiletries. 24-hour room service.
The Sofitel Salvador Bahia has two main restaurants. "Les Saveurs d'Itapua" offers Bahia and international cuisine in a very pleasant setting. Indeed, the restaurant has a large bay-window overlooking a small lake surrounded by thick vegetation. Guaranteed tropical atmosphere! For lunch or dinner in a more formal environment, the Sofitel also offers a French-inspired gourmet restaurant in a carefully decorated room. Breakfast is served by the pool, it offers a wide selection of hot and cold dishes: cold cuts, cheese, fried eggs, fresh fruit, pastries, and rolls.
The beach is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It is large, covered with fine sand, lined with coconut palms, and displays the changing colours of the Atlantic Ocean. The water is calm in the morning but tends to become rough in the afternoon. All amenities are provided, including parasols and beach towels. For an additional fee, guests can scuba dive or sail.
