CharmRecently renovated and smartly designed within a large flowery garden, this club has modern facilities and an undeniable charm. It is also easy to isolate yourself as well as participate in animation activities in this hotel which has perfectly adopted local style.
It is located in the centre of the Saly seaside resort, some 50 miles away south of Dakar. The journey from the airport to the hotel takes 1 h 30 minutes.
The hotel was recently expanded, with the addition of new units near the beach. They don't have however the charm of the old units, which have also been been renovated. It is therefore advisable to take a bungalow in the park and not near the beach. There is a casino, a golf course and a fishing centre in the resort. The Royam's asset : its tours, organised by an operator in the establishment which offers, among other things, microlight or helicopter outings.
With its 80 bungalows hidden under the trees infœ the heart of a 2-hectare flowery park, the Royam is particularly pleasant. Around a beautiful swimming pool, the small activity team ensures a softened and relaxed atmosphere. The club's entire life is built around the pool : restaurant, bar, playground, shops... Behind, small paths lead you to the lodging units and, further on, to the beach. However, sporting activities take place outside the club and are extra. These include : horse riding, sailing, big game fishing, cycling, disco...
Large and colourful, the rooms are decorated in Serer style ( local ethnic group ) and harmonise perfectly with their ochre shades which also embellish the exterior walls topped with thatched roofs. They offer standard amenities but no TV and mini-bar. The whole set is very attractive. Depending on individual taste, you will love the interior design : the shower room is located down below the room. It should be noted down that the establishment recently built new bungalows, nearer the sea. Notwithstanding their proximity to the water, they are less beautiful than the old ones, which open onto the park, are larger and more pleasant.
The double dining-room, entirely re-decorated in patterns of pink and blue, is clean and friendly. Hearty and varied ( between 7 and 10 hot dishes ), the meals are served à la carte and the wine list is particularly rich. The cuisine, local and international, is delicious and renowned, depending on individual tastes and desires. A typical Senegalese evening is organised once a week. Breakfast, very hearty, is served until late. A children's menu is available, at midday and in the evening. Dinner is normally offered in case of half board. A bar, located near the swimming pool, with the beach in the background, welcomes summer visitors in the day and the orchestra stage does so in the evening without interruption.
Nothwithstanding its beautiful harmony, the Royam has a weakness : although it has a charming private and supervised beach, it is particularly small. What an odd idea to have set huge concrete blocks in the water to prevent high tides ! Just like everywhere all over the Petite Côte, the water is muddy because of the streams and you may find some rocks the first few metres. On the other hand, you can easily access the beach from the swimming pool and the accommodations. It should however be observed that this beach is one of the cleanest and best maintained and that it is has all the necessary comfort ( sunshades, deckchairs and vast lawn ). We find the same comfort around the pool which is, unfortunately, not supervised.
