CharmThe Gran Bahia is located a few minutes from Samana. One hundred rooms, a team of entertainers, international cuisine, the hotel is more or less a beach resort.
The hotel is located just 5 miles from the noisy but very lively city of Samana, on the winding road that leads to Las Galeras. You are greeted by a truly natural passageway, formed by the junction of the branches of trees lining up the road. From January to April, while quietly sipping a pina colada on the terrace, you can see without any difficulty whole communities of migrating whales. An unforgettable sight !
Like most hotels in the Dominican Republic, the Gran Bahia is open all year round; the climate would not allow otherwise ! Its three floors make it a hotel of reasonable proportions (but beware, there is no elevator). The site does not extend for hundreds of metres.
The hotel has an almost opulent architecture compared to some buildings that have popped up along the coast. Its style, inspired by Colonial times, aspires for tranquility. It is built on a small cliff just above the sea, in the midst of rich vegetation. The building is integrated perfectly into a natural park adjoining the island of Cayo Levantado (15 minutes by boat).
The rooms are very standard and properly equipped (air conditioning, direct dial telephone for international calls, a safe and satellite television). But they still suffer from a certain lack of character. Nevertheless, this small gap is quickly compensated for by the absolutely exceptional view you can enjoy from each of the 111 rooms in the hotel.
Two restaurants, one of which serves a buffet (Las Flechas) with international cuisine, very classic but of good quality, and the other is an Italian restaurant. Also, there is a bar on the first floor and a second bar by the pool side.
The beach is beautiful but rather small. Do not expect an endless stretch of sand. The trees, whose roots sink into in the sand, give shade and you protect you from the sun's rays after bathing.
