FamilyPart of the Spanish hotel chain, Sol Melia, Sol Sharm opened in June 2003. The resort has great sea views and well-maintained gardens. Clean, neat, bright and airy, the Sol Sharm is a pleasant resort of white walls and terraces decorated with Bougainvilliers plants. It is a fairly small resort for the area and has good facilities for children.
The hotel is situated south of the Sinai peninsula, just 2 miles from the airport and 9 miles from Naama bay.
The hotel is perched on the cliffs and all rooms overlook the sea as well as Tiran Island which is the diving hot spot in the area. It can get quite crowded though. With regards to accommodation, part of the hotel is a little remote, being located in a very quiet area that arranged around a swimming pool with a pool bar, which is ideal for guests needing a little peace and quiet. The rooms offering an incredible view on Tiran Island all start with numbers 5 or 6 and must be requested at the time of booking.
The Sharm Sol is a 4-star hotel including 3 pools and an area well-suited for children. During the day, many activities for both adults and children are organised around the swimming pools. The hotel also has a bureau de change, an outdoor theatre with nightly performances, a lounge with pool table, a big TV screen and a fitness centre with massage room, sauna and hammam.
The rooms are spacious, as are the bathrooms. The décor is non-descript and could do with a spruce up. All rooms have either a terrace or baclony. Rooms with sea views must be requested at the time of booking. The bathrooms have bathtubs and the hotel's own brand toiletries.
The main restaurant serves a buffet and has a nice ambiance, with a kiosk at the centre of the room and a trompe-l'oeil beach scene painted on the wall. It offers international cuisine with several different themes each week while a chef prepares the pasta according to your taste. An area is devoted to oriental food and another to children. The other two restaurants serve à la carte, one near the biggest pool and the other located on the beach. There is also a piano bar with a large terrace and a dance floor, an oriental coffee shop and a bar beside the pool, which is the furthest from the main building.
The beach is quite far from the hotel and very densely packed. To get there you must take the shuttle bus that makes round trips from dawn to sunset. The ride is less than 5 minutes. The beach is rather small with deckchairs, sunshades, a bar/snack restaurant and a bridge to cross the coral reef along the coast that provides a very good spot for scuba diving with flippers, masks and tubas all available to rent at the diving centre.
