Hotel Tropicana New Tiran

Situated right in the mix of things in Naama Bay, the hotel is just a few minutes' walk from the beach. The airport is around eight miles away while the neighbouring zones of Hadaba and Shark's Bay can be reached in ten to fifteen minutes by car.

While it is true to say that the hotel has few facilities, it is however surrounded by a plethora of shops, bars and restaurants. During the day there is not much going on, however the area springs to life at night and the place is a hive of activity where the colours, sounds and smells of Sharm are to be marveled at.

There is just one category of room at the New Tiran, however it is spacious, bright and spotless. The reddy orange material that is used for the curtains, plaids, bed skirts, cushions and also to upholster the armchairs gives the room a warm feel, as does the check rug at the seating area. The furniture (dresser plus flatscreen television, baggage stand, headboards) all features wicker work, adding to the cosiness of the space. The bathroom is not bad at all with attractive floral tiling, hairdryer, toiletries, however it does only have a small shower cubicle with curtain. All rooms have either a terrace or balcony with pool view, safe and fridge.

The New Tiran is one of the smallest complexes in Sharm. The outside of the hotel is far from glamorous with two satellite dishes and an American motel style sign adorning the roof, while on the ground a collection of armchairs arranged around coffee tables, all ready for groups of men to smoke shisha pipes, run along the length of the hotel. The lobby is a simple, solemn affair with several sets of wicker seating and glass-topped tables around the edges of the room and a PC (20EGP per hour for internet) tucked away next to the entrance. Double glass doors to the right of reception lead straight out onto the swimming pool which is surrounded completely by the accommodation buildings. This is the only outdoor public space but is a pleasant space with palm trees all around, although due to the close proximity of the buildings to the pool, the sun disappears prematurely. There is sufficient space around the pool for the number of guests staying at the hotel and plenty of sun beds and shade. The area is clean and the plants well kept. Outside the hotel, right on the main pedestrian road through the tourist area, there is an oriental café for tea and shisha featuring shaded low cushioned seating organised around tiled tables adorned with flowers. Aside from this the hotel does not offer any other services.

Being such a small hotel, there is just one restaurant which serves an international buffet on a one week cycle (breakfast and dinner only). The dining room is a rather non-descript space although it's especially bright during the day. If you are hungry during the day then head to the beach (although you will probably already be there!) and order from a large menu featuring pizzas, meat, fish and seafood as well as drinks, both alcoholic and otherwise.

Being situated just the other side of the road from the beach, within a few minutes' walk you can be basking under the sun. To the left of the entrance is a shisha corner and to the right is the bar/snack restaurant. There are certainly enough sun beds and parasols for the number of people on the beach although they are quite tightly packed in. The hotel has no diving centre, so you'll have to organise this elsewhere, although you can try a number of different water sports (others are available next door at Helnan hotel's beach). The quality of sand if good, the surface flat and jetties allow you access to the coral, around 100m out to sea. To get rid of those knots in your shoulders, you can enjoy a massage on the beach too.
