NatureThe Laguna Beach is a pleasant, welcoming hotel that has, however, standard-looking infrastructures. A medium-capacity hotel with good lodging comfort.
This hotel review is a translation from the French published on our French site, Easyvoyage.com.
The Laguna Beach is located in the Malé Sud atoll, 20 minutes away by speed boat and 55 min away by dhoni from Malé airport.
The Laguna Beach belongs to Universal Resorts. You can circumnavigate the island in 30 min. For honeymooners: special newlywed price and candlelit dinner with a bottle of wine offered by Kuoni. Underwater diving:
The Dive Center underwater diving centre offers classes for all levels in English according to the PADI and SMAS methods. The coral reef is located 1148 feet away from the beach (possible access by boat for a fee). The underwater diving sites are between a 5-minute and 1 hour trip. A shipwreck is not far. The sites are known for their manta rays and sharks.
Built in 1990, the Laguna Beach has a large reception area, several restaurants, and bars including one with a dance floor (dance nights organised three times a week) that is quite large and rather impersonal. It has a terrace overlooking the swimming pool (with a pool for kids). The latter is bordered by a teakwood solarium facing the beach and a fake boulder that is somewhat in poor taste. The Laguna Beach has a teakwood bar on the waterfront built to admire the sunset on the water. The Laguna Beach also has bungalows on piers, a fitness room, a Serena spa and a water sports base. Also on the programme: beach volleyball, ping-pong, gymnastics, tennis.
The 115 rooms are distributed around the island in one-story buildings for the deluxe rooms or in adjacent ground-floor bungalows for the superior deluxe rooms with a view of Malé. The deluxe category rooms are 301 square feet, the superior deluxe rooms 344 square feet. They are spacious and furnished with rattan furniture, mezzanine, terrace or balcony, equipped with individual air conditioning, fan, mini-bar, safe, direct telephone line for international calling, radio. The bathrooms are open towards the outside, have a bathtub and an outside shower. The 17 individual suites on piers are 752 square feet, have a television in addition to the bedroom and a private space for breakfast and a little beach.
The main restaurant, the Summerfields, offers buffets and menus for half-board and full-board. The dining room, open towards the outside, looks a little like a canteen because of its lack of privacy but the foot is good, and the service concerned about your satisfaction. The Chinese or Mediterranean restaurants welcome you in closed dining rooms, which is kind of a shame in Maldives. You can also go to the grill located on the beach which is open in the evening, or to the snack bar.
The beach is large but the sand is thick. It has football and beach volleyball courts. There are deckchairs. The water is translucent and the pleasure of swimming is nor marred by rocks. If you stay on the piers, you will enjoy a small separate beach, equipped with deckchairs. The water sports base offers several activities: windsurfing, catamaran, canoeing...
