CharmThe Amaragua is a nice hotel, ideally located on the verge of the sea, away from the agitation of the town. Its fitness centre is definitely one of the best offers of the hotel.
The Amaragua is located in the west side of Torremolinos (Montemar district), 1.5 miles away from downtown. Depending on the traffic, you will spend about 15 to 30 minutes driving from the airport (5 miles).
The hotel offers a spa centre (paying) fitted out by a small fitness room, an indoors pool (645 feet²)- Greco-Roman style, a jacuzzi, a hammam and a sauna. Massages and different types of treatments like psysiotherapy or aromatherapy are offered for the hotel clients. The centre even has a hydro-massage room. Recently, the hotel has been offering beauty cares but these services are still on trial.
The Amaragua is composed of two 6-to-7-floor building built in the 70s and entirely renovated in 2001. The large lobby, all in marble, is decorated by nice antique Andalousian items like a massive wood safe, an old denominational, a calash and galleon models.. In the background, a large bay-window offers a beautiful panorama of the sea. Distributed all around, the quiet living-rooms allow you to relax and talk in privacy. Outside, you will find a 2,690-feet² pool with a basin for kids, free beach chairs and sunshades. The solarium-patio is located higher up compared to the edge of the sea, so that you are isolated from the public beach and the crowd walking around. The pool bar is open only in summer. Always in summer, three animators organise aquagym sessions and games during the aperitif. Once a week, a folk evening is also organised.
The 279 rooms are large (260 feet²), bright and, like the lobby, largely made of marble. If the tissues were choosen with taste, the furniture is not that great and needs renewal. The rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a satellite TV, telephone with direct international line, a safe (paying) and a mini-bar. Covered by marble, the bathrooms offer a bathtub, a bidet, toilets, a hair-dryer and a few welcome products. All the rooms offer a balcony, but only the suites have a sea view. The double rooms offer a lateral view with an important vis-a-vis of the nearby facades and/or the parking. The individual rooms overlook the street. When you book your stay, ask for a room on an upper level for more tranquility.
The hotel main restaurant offers a large rectangular room that can accommodate up to 220 guests. Like the lobby, it is lighted up by a large bay-window overlooking the sea. Here, breakfast and dinner are served buffet style. The chocie is decent with, a dozen of entrées (a majority of salads), about 5 dishes, grills, a selection of cheese and a few desserts for dinner. The cuisine is largely Andalusian. The only bad point: in high season, the place greatly lacks intimacy due to the narrow tables. In summer, the hotel opens its à la carte restaurant,'' La Ola'', at noon and evening. A diversified choice of entrées, sandwiches, dishes and desserts are offered there. About 20€ for a full meal without drinks (£16).
The hotel is located right in front of Montemar public beach. You can then take advantage of all the activities and facilities offered by the different beach attendants (paying). In addition to sportive activities like windsurfing, water skiing, jet-skiing, pedalo, upward parachuting, banana or ringo, you can rent beach chairs and mattresses for about 15 &euros; per day (£12). Showers are available all along the beach. The beach is like all the beaches we know in Costa del Sol: monotous, charmless, windswept and very crowded in high season. The sand is grey and not always very clean. When the wind blows strongly, water sports lovers will enjoy the big waves that crush on the beach. No danger: streams are usually low and the beach is supervised.
