The Riu Nautilus is the favorite destination for German customers. The comfort of the rooms as well as the closeness to the beach and the nightlife are the best offers.
The Riu Nautilus is located at the town limit of Torremolinos, 2 miles from downtown. Coming from the airport, you will spend about 15 to 30 minutes driving, depending on the traffic (5 miles).
The hotel is located 1,640 feet from La Carihuela, the small nice marina that separates Torremolinos from Benalmadena. Here you will find the resort nightlife nerve centre. Bars, tapas, discos...the night is yours!
Otherwise, the hotel is rather quiet and welcomes a majority of German customers.
The Riu Nautilus is composed of a 7-storey building built in the 70s, completed by a 3-storey building (added in 2000). Everything was renovated in 2004. The large lobby, a little dark, is decorated traditionally with marble floors and green plants. The furniture combines rattan, wicker and wrought iron. The ambiance is not really young and you should get used to a high presence of German clientele. The bar offers a beautiful patio that overlooks the pool, the landslide and a little farther, the sea. Here is the place where the summer shows are held and where the evenings are animated by external artists. The pool (2,690 feet˛), decorated at one of its edges by a mermaid, is located right on the verge of the sea. The solarium, with quite sqeezed beach cahirs, is separated from the promenade that borders the beach by a small fence. Despite the exotic floors and the few palm trees, the concrete presides over the outside space. Too bad for the beautiful view that overlooks the sea.
Open from 9:00am to 7:00pm, the Spa del Mar includes a rectangular heated indoor pool, 1m10 deep, a Jacuzzi, a Turkish bath, a gym with top-of-the-range machines, and two massage rooms. Only the treatments are charged extra (Thai, Ayurvedic, hot stone, Shiatsu and aromatic massages, seaweed, cherry, wine or chocolate wraps, manicures, pedicures, facials, etc.).
The 293 rooms of the hotel are spacious, clean and bright. The decoration is classic and simple: tiled floors, white rendering walls, tissue in blue and yellow shades. The furniture made of varnished wood is sober and restrained. Note that: there is also a very large closet that covers a whole wall. The rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with satellite TV, telephone with direct international line, a safe (paying) and a filled mini-bar (soft drinks and sweet alcohol). The bathrooms are nice. They are fitted out with a bathtub, a washbasin and a hair-dryer. A bidet and toilets are located in a reinforcement. A balcony, equipped with plastic furniture offers a total, partial or lateral view of the sea depending on the position of the room.
Note that: on each floor, the rooms with a number ending in 33 to 36 offer a view of the sea; those ending in 55 and more, offer a view of the pool and the gardens but they offer good sunshine at the end of the day.
The hotel offers only one restaurant of 390 guests, open for breakfast and dinner, that you can reach through the lobby. The decoration is neutral but very light due to the large bay-windows overlooking the sea. Spread out in the middle of the dining room, the buffets are fitted out in such a way that you can go around them. The selection and the variety are good quality and you will eat a Mediterranean and international cuisine. The breakfast mainly offers a choice of yoghurts, cereals, cooked meats, cheese, raw vegetables, fresh fruits and different types of bread. In a ''show-cooking'' space the food is prepared for you at request, so you can have soft-boiled eggs or scrambled eggs, potatoes or pancakes. For lunch, go to the snack-bar where you are served simple dishes from 12:30 AM to 3:30 PM. It is made of a wrought iron furniture and nice blue tiles on the walls. Too bad, however for the small surface (about thirty tables).
The Riu Nautilus is located right in front of Montemar public beach. To get here, all you need to do is cross over the seaborne promenade. It is a dark grey sandy beach, mixed up with pebbles and pieces of seashells on the verge of the sea. Nearby, a drain exit (treated water) somehow discourages the bathing. Not to mention the summer crowd and the numerous of restaurants on this side of the beach. Different beach attendants rent beach chairs, mattresses and sunshades by the day. There are no real water clubs nearby the hotel but you can practice different water sports a little farther, toward Torremolinos centre.
