AnimationThis hotel has nothing exceptional except for maybe its price and, without a doubt, its beach with golden sands and clear blue sea. Open in 1999, the Playa de Oro is managed by the French chain Accor.
This hotel review is a translation of the French version published on our French site Easyvoyage.com.
On the seafront, about 6 miles from Varadero (15 mins) and 20 miles from the international airport (35 minutes), the Coralia Playa de Oro faces the Florida Detroit on the north coast of the Hicacos peninsula. It is built on an immense piece of land giving a great feeling of space when you walk in. Outside of the hotel, the surrounding areas are rather spoilt.
70% of the guests are French speaking (mainly from France and Quebec). Behind the hotel, a rustic style architecture with a vast open space separating the pool from the beach.
With outside panoramic lifts overlooking the pool and three buildings (two are for accomodation), the Playa de Ora provides all modern amenities. With the all- inclusive option, many services are combined with facilities and multiple activites, as everything is on site. Lots of entertainment is organised, on a Cuban theme. People who like sport will love all of the sports equipment.
With a sea, garden or swimming pool view, the 385 rooms are in two buildings each with 5 floors. Spacious with bed, desk and wardrobe, they all have a balcony, adjustable air conditioning, satellite television, safe, hair dryer, telephone for international calls and a fridge. The bathrooms are simple. All in white, they have a bath, a few toiletry products and a tooth brush. Only one weak point.... lthe decor! The hotel has 14 suites.
Several themed buffets are proposed in the main restaurant. The staff are very friendly Italian specialties can be tasted near the pool and Caribbean cuisine near the beach (only for dinner and tables must be booked). The beach bar is open from 9am to 5pm and the lobby bar 24 hours a day. It is also a snack-bar. The hotel, always trying to be as friendly as possible, also organises cultural dinner parties, where guests can share a communal dinner
The beach is quiet because even though the beach is nearby it isn't directly on it. It's a small walk away but once you get there it's definately worth seeing this magical place. Blue, crystal clear water; a delight for swimming. The sand is white and fine under parasols made of dried palm tree leaves. Deckchairs and beach towels are available.
