Well locatedA small hotel located on the edge of a canal, where you will discover the real Venice: few tourists, no vaporettos' noise (even though the Great Canal is quite close). One of the hotels to choose because of its location (in the typical Santa Croce neighbourhood), rather than for its comfort.
On Fondamenta delle Burchielle, along the canal with the same name (Santa Croce neighbourhood). The bus station (piazzale Roma) is located at a 5 minute walk, the railway station (Santa Lucia) a little bit farther.
Vaporetto stop: piazzale Roma.
The airport is 8 miles away. Allow a 30 minute drive from the bus terminal.
The Arlecchino hotel is a good place for families and for young visitors. Lots of triple and even quadruple rooms, which allows you to save some money on the accommodation. Plus, for party people, the bus terminal is just a few steps away. Because it is in Mestre (not Venice) that people go out at night (15 minutes away). A perfect location to combine cultural days with trendy evenings.
Attention, the hotel is entirely non-smoking.
Lodging advice:
There are only 6 rooms (out of 34) that offer a canal view. Choose them, even though they are more expensive, because the view is worth it.
The Arlecchino was opened in 1990 and the rooms were renovated recently. You push a glass door where you can see a picture of Arlequin, one of the characters of the Commedia dell' Arte, and you find yourself in the tiny reception - living-room - TV room, painted in blue and white like the rest of the hotel. The ''rest'' consists of the rooms, as there is no other common space than the breakfast room on the first floor.
If the 6 rooms (out of a total of 34) that overlook the canal delle Burchielle are already taken, you will have a view on close façades or on the bus terminal of piazzale Roma, which is quite worse... As for accommodations, 14 are fitted out for 3 people, and there are also quadruple rooms available. The decor is in 19th century Venetian style: blue, white, a cane wooden chair, a brass chandelier. The facilities offered are a TV, air-conditioning, a mini bar and a direct telephone line. All bathrooms have a bathtub (a good point) and a hair-dryer. However, there are no welcome products, just a small soap.
If, upon your arrival, you go to the canal, you will definitely think that this restaurant's terrace at the edge of the water would be a very nice place to have dinner. Indeed, but you would eat in a pizzeria that does not belong to the hotel. The Arlecchino does not offer any catering services besides breakfast. The latter cannot be taken on the terrace, the room is located on the first floor and the picture windows that overlook the canal do not have a balcony. This being said, the room is nicely set up and decorated, also in blue and white. No hot dishes offered at the buffet: the greediest will enjoy cooked meat, cheese and hard boiled eggs. Otherwise, there are also cereals, fruit juices( in can), fresh fruits, biscuits and buns.
