Cooking Iceland

 Gastronomy

Icelandic dishes are exquisite, especially sea food, dairy products, lamp and reindeer meat. Traditional dishes on the other hand are quite difficult to digest, particularly for their prices; you will prefer to do the cooking than go to restaurants. (about 1 200 ISK/lunch and 2 100 ISK/dinner).

A few specialties:
Theskyr is a type of thick white cheese. It is sometimes mixed with
soft fruits.Smjörosturs are very frequent. These are prawn cheese or mushroom
cheese. The surmatur is a dish of offals or giblets: mutton, whale or
seal. The blodmör is a mutton pudding.
The brennivin is a delicious angelica-flavoured potato brandy.
