The beaches Tamil Nadu covers nearly 62 miles of coastline and is almost entirely composed of sandy beaches. The beauty of the local temples is complemented by the beauty of the sea thanks to the many ports here. © Wilfried Louvet
The coast of the gulf of Bengal in the north of the state towards the Indian Ocean offers long and lovely beaches, such as those of Mamallapuram or Rameshwaram. At Kannyakumari (Cape Comorin), at the southern tip of India, beware of strong currents and powerful waves. The black sandy beach close to the circular fort of Vattakottai is much more calm. You can equally move up the coast towards Kerala to bask in the sun on Kovalam beach. At several points, you will discover pleasant spots and traditional fishing aboard catamarans.
